Hey Anthony, you're right, Bill doesn't know how good he has it in Florida, all he really has to worry about is the goats & birds. This Oldsmobile is a real gem, I always thought that this model 98 looks tall, we called them skyscrapers on wheels back in the 80s. 👍🙂 The red leather interior is beautiful. Summer of 1984. My Dad was an Olds dealer. I was 11 years old and spending a lot of my summer with Dad at his dealership that year. He worked hard and didn't take many days off so we were there pretty much every day except Sundays. I loved being with him and even though sometimes I'd be bored hanging around his dealership I wanted to go in with him. One day when I was there helping organize files or something in the finance department Dad walked in and said "Hey, how would you like to take off early and go see Ghostbusters?" Of course I said yes as I'd been wanting to see it. Dad usually drove a 98 as a demonstrator so we got in his car and headed over to the cinema. We both loved the movie so much and had such a good time we ended up going to see Ghostbusters at least a few more times that summer. It never got old for us. It's strange, but the interior of this car ties me to some of the best memories of my life.

I had an 83 Recency four door! It was often mistaken for a Cadillac! In fact, back then I detailed cars. The original owner brought it to me with 17 miles on it straight from the dealer and said "do whatever you think it needs"! I waxed every painted surface! Hinges, under the doors, the hood and trunk inside.. in 1988 he bought a Fleetwood and I bought the Olds! For 3 years he wanted to buy it back! I drove that car across country 7 times racking up 187,000 miles all the while cleaning and waxing it like day one every 3 months! In 1995 it was stolen and striped bare! I was heartbroken! Got $800 for it from the insurance. I still miss that car today!

Great trip back to the eighties, Anthony! That is one beautiful 98. That body style of 98 is what actually got me interested them. But by the time I bought one, it was the new downsized 98 Regency Brougham of 1985, which turned out to be one great car! I can still remember the name of the paint color - Champagne Glamour Metallic, and it was the slick top, no vinyl roof, and it had a matching interior. I remember taking that baby on a vacation to California and had zero problems the entire time. Actually the only thing I can even remember replacing on that car was the power antenna motor, it was such a trouble-free car. Oldsmobiles were really wonderful cars, and I have had four of them in my life and never had any trouble with any of them. Thanks, Anthony.

Take the fender skirts off this baby and you have a Buick Park Avenue 😂. I absolutely love both the Regency and the Park Avenue. What an absolutely gorgeous specimen. I remember as a kid when these were new I was fascinated by these cars. You don't see many of these out here on the West Coast anymore. For me, I think the Cadillacs drove nicer, but that's likely because they had air suspension. What a lovely boulevard cruiser.

Omg! This clip brought back some fun teenage memories. My dad had a white 2 door with white on red interior. White leather seats with everything else the same red as this one and 1/2 white landau roof. It had an olds 403 ci engine. I got to borrow it on special occasions as a senior in high school. Since the rear end was so light you could sit at a light and just smoke the tires or just sit there and make it rock back and forth by turning the wheel back and forth. Everyone loved that car. I bought nothing but oldsmobiles until they were shut down. My 1st was a 2dr International series Cutlas Ciera, then the last model Olds Tornado and then the Olds Aurora. I never had a problem with any them. In fact, GM called me 3 years after olds closed, asked if I had replaced the fuel rail on my Aurora, which I had, and sent me a $650 check! They told me it was a recall and it should have been fixed free of charge. That just blew me away. They reached out to me in 2007! I now drive a 2018 Buick Lacrosse and love it...

Wow Anthony, what a blast from the past. I'm a Virginia native, and recognized the inspection sticker immediately. Our inspection stickers were always placed in the center of the windshield, with your city, or county license decal placed beside it, making them very easy to be seen by state & local police, who would issue you a ticket if either one was expired. In the last two years, the inspection sticker has been moved to the lower left hand corner of the windshield, and the locality decal removed entirely, because they interfered with modern day GPS, and Autonomous Braking Systems. Yay! This generation of Oldsmobile 98 Regency sedans were very popular in central Virginia because of a large dealership here named Royal Oldsmobile. Sadly, they closed when GM shut down both the Pontiac, & Oldsmobile brands. I was devastated, the two brands produced some of my favorite cars during those years. The GTO, Firebird, Cutlass Supreme, and 442's were the cars I "lusted" after when I was a young buck.Those days are long gone, but I still have my memories. Thanks for the trip back to the days of my "misspent" youth, I do remember them fondly! P.S. Bristol, Va. is in southwest corner of the state, near the Tennessee border, and is the home of NASCAR's Bristol Motor Speedway, host this weekend to both the Camping World Truck Series, and NASCAR Cup Series races. It was to have been a big weekend because the asphalt track surface has been covered in dirt for a couple of "one off" races, but it rained overnight last night, and into the day today, cancelling the Truck Race this afternoon, and making the Cup Race on Sunday "iffy"!

Very nice & bittersweet at the same time. A beautiful original car that's been pampered , garaged & well maintained by its original owner, destined to sit in a field at an Auction Site for a year. Such an injustice to this rare machine. I'm surprised the red interior didn't take more beating from all the sun! Noting you said the vinyl top looked rich & glossy in pictures, but after a year being out, dried & faded? Just shows how vulnerable these 'classics' are. Even though an older car still looks pristine, that original "condition" won't maintain its perfect State if exposed to the Elements. These are NOT new car replacements. I have a feeling my babies are gonna wind up in the same way when I go 😔 ☹️

What a gorgeous automobile! Absolutely love the color combination and it's rare leather interior! I love my Cadillacs, but these GM cousins are absolutely amazing and should be saved as well! GM's luxury line up went 1 Cadillac, 2 Oldsmobile, 3 Buick and 4 & 5 Pontiac and Chevrolet. Some argue that Buicks are before Oldsmobile, but most agree that Oldsmobile is closest behind the car, the legendary Cadillac. This car is gonna make someone very happy!

You are correct, Sir GM did some surveys on their customers in the late 60s early 70s. The were surprised to find out that more millionaires at that time owned Buicks than Cadillacs. Seems that the Buick customers thought that Cadillacs were too "flashy" and "new money"

Gorgeous 98!! Makes me miss the 84 Delta 88 I had and loved. Too bad all they offered in gas was the anemic 307. What a slug, but I loved it anyway. Wish I had $9k - I’d buy it in a SECOND and drive it home 3,000 miles to WA State.

Hi Anthony - I really enjoy all of your videos. Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs have been my favorite cars since childhood. I am actually retired in Naples Florida where Bill lives and have purchased a car from him. I am very happy with the weather here. I grew up in an Oldsmobile family. My first car was a Blue 1969 Olds Cutlass S. My dad’s first Olds was a Black and White 1957 Super 88. His last Olds was a Burgundy 1973 Olds 98 Regency with that plush black velour interior. Then he upgraded to an absolutely beautiful White 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz with a white leather interior. You didn’t mention it, but this 1984 Olds 98 is important because it was the last “big” Oldsmobile. GM downsized in 1985. I am interested in buying this car and sent you my contact information through your website. However, I know that it will probably already be sold by the time that you read this. Keep up the good work and continued good luck! Thank you, Jim

Agree with hierarchy here. My Dad always drove Buicks (Electras, Park Avenues and Rivieras). He says he was never interested in Cadillacs, though he could easily have afforded them. Back when these cars had more distinctive styling in the 50's and 60's, people seemed to develop a preference, and stuck with it. In the 90s and 2000s he finally came over to Cadillacs (De Ville, De Ville Concours, DHS) snd then settled on JEEPs, of all things.😊

Hey Anthony! I use to drool over these big sedans in the 80’s You mention the the GM ladder from Chevy to Caddy and by this time I really think Buick, Pontiac, Olds, and Chevy were all so similar in Ride, Quietness power. To me it was a matter of personal Taste but the 80’s. I bought new in 1981 the last Big Rear wheel drive Bonneville Coupe in Burgundy with the Landau Padded Vinyl top and Sport HoneyComb Wheels and thick whitewalls like this Olds. What a Pretty car with the Crushed Velour that Sparkled and had the same high pillow design with 6 biscuit pattern on the seats. My Boss wanted to buy the car from me. LOL

That velour fabric was spectacular! And I know the exact Bonneville coupe that you had. A triple black one used to drive past my house every morning while I was waiting for the school bus in the early to mid 1980s. It had fender skirts, if I recall correctly. You didn’t see many of them on the road.
@gene978

Thats Exactly Right! I never seen another coupe with the Brougham Package. I went to the dealer ship to compare the Grand Prix, with the Cutlass, I was trading in my 1980 Cougar XR-7 less then a year old. After the test drive of the Grand Prix the sales man took me outback to show me the car I fell in love with still on the racks of the car hauler still covered with Styrofoam. And plastic. As soon as I seen for just a little more money I coupe be driving that ( at age 19) I was over excited to get that car down and as soon as I checked the car out compared to the Grand Prix Everything was Nicer. Now, I felt I had stepped up. $13,500 back in 1981. My New Cougar sticker was under $10K and nothing more than a gussied up Fairmont. I was 18 and my first new car so I was talked into that dealer Demo with 5500 miles. I got $2700 off sticker. Back then Interest Rates were 13% and in 1981 16.99% I still remember the payment $276.52. Times that by 3 in todays money.

@@gene978 That’s a great story! It’s a shame GM no longer makes any attractive cars. Or I should say that I personally don’t find any of them attractive. My favorites will always be the full size rear drive 2 door models. 1980 and up, until GM came out with the almost ridiculous looking “full size” front wheel drive cars in 1985. I was especially turned off by the 1989 and up front wheel drive Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Every one I ever saw, without exception, had a wave in the sheet metal just below the beltline, between the B pillar and C pillar, on both sides! Was I the only person bothered by this? How could GM knowingly produce new 2 door Cadillacs with such a defect? Were Cadillac buyers, at the time, blind to this defect?
@gene978
@gene978 3 жыл бұрын
@@CH67guy1 I agree 100% I think the mid 80’s to late 90’s was huge experimintation while trying to comply with new Federal Mandates, figuring out what consumers wanted and because of this the defects in workmanship, dependability, all were rushed out because Money. I hated the FWD 80’s Caddy’s. I seen them everywhere. I would take a Crown Vic, Marquis, Caprice anyday before that Caddy. UGLY! I now drive a pretty good looking Deep Red 2017 Impala and I do love the room, ride, handling, power, Luggage Space, and even the MPG is much improved at 35 hwy and 23 city. Cars go many more miles then they use to. 4 years old and not a whisper of trouble (knock on wood) Chain the oil, and rotate tires, and keep it clean!
@CH67guy1
@CH67guy1 3 жыл бұрын
@@gene978 I have to admit that GM nailed the styling perfectly on that Chevy Impala that you have. And I’d consider buying one, but I hear the depreciation is among the worst of any new car in the United States. I recently saw the new Chevy Blazer and absolutely love the fresh new styling. But my other half doesn’t care for it at all. In my dream life I’d live in a walkable urban area and not even have a car. As I get older I no longer like driving. Grocery store and back, about 6 miles round trip, is about as far as I want to go. I never calculated exactly, but I bet I’d save at least $1,000 per month not having a car. Used to have 3 on the road, then 2, and now just 1. Today I can afford just about any car I want, but today’s new cars simply don’t excite me any more. However, I always have my eyes open for nice 30, 40, and 50 year old cars that I salivated over when I was younger. And from time to time I buy one of these vintage cars and use it as a daily driver. But keeping even my 1994 Cadillac in good repair and dependable can be a bit challenging, even for me, a trained aviation mechanic and a person who started worked on cars with my dad about the time I went off to kindergarten. I don’t enjoy tinkering on cars anymore. So my 1994 Cadillac is sitting in my garage with a transmission problem and my daily driver is a super boring but super dependable 2016 Toyota Camry.

Great car. My mother had one of these rather luxurious land yachts. The car had every creature comfort with plush plush interior and it lasted forever. If someone buys this sucker, they'll be confident it's a tank that can take it. It would be able to take on any Buick or Caddy anyday. Good up close camera work. But, dude, order the fooking car manual for your future customer. It's bad form not having one. You also should fix the radio and the a/c.
