The 1984 Olympics were incredible, & living in Los Angeles at the time, it was impossible not to get swept up in the excitement. My family watched most of the various events, but on this particular day, I was working (at Carl's Jr, ha ha), so a friend with a vcr recorded part of it for me. I did get home in time to catch the final routines & scores, followed by this emotional ceremony, & only later discovered that my tape ran out just before this section. So stumbling across it 40 years later (!) was a surprise, & an example of why it's still fun to see what channels like this post on KZfaq. Thank you so much for sharing!

That was an awesome men's team in 1984. I remember Bart Conner and Tim Daggett on the rings.

Very nice! Plus, for the courtesy of you and others who view this, the words of our national anthem were penned by Francis Scott Key in the aftermath of the Brittish attack on Fort McHenry during the war of 1812 upon seeing the American flag still waving over the fort that morning and below are Mr. Key's words if you want to read them while listening or sing along as you stand with your hand over your heart. The anthem begins at the 7:45 mark. O say, can you see? By the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, o'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming. And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Athletes on their feet, singing the National Anthem, and wiping tears from there eyes! Proud Americans. So much more classy and dignified than the thugs of the NFL today.

James Kingsmill apples and oranges comparison. Olympics are about country, NFL is a private entertainment organization. Try again.

Just wait for the WOKE LA Olympics in 2028. No US flags or anthem. Plenty of kneeling.

@@tokenjoy Really? I was expecting those things at these Tokyo 2020/2021 Olympics.

The trumpets are a bit much. I'm sure at the time I thought they were awesome, but they're over the top and tacky now. The blue and pink polyester outfits are really lame.
