excalibur1812 they were. A lot ice dancers were throughout the years underrated and couldn't really climb in the standings. Though I really think Blumberg and seibert got screwed in Sarajevo. I think Fox and Dalley also could have deserved 3rd place too. At least 4th. I think klimova and pomenanrenko did deserve silver in 1988 in Calgary but felt they were not as matured yet as the American teams in 1984.

pia yes, this whole competition was a travesty. The fix was in from the beginning and the judges strategically judged Judy & Michael so that it came down to a tie-breaker in the free dance with a tenth of a point, giving the bronze to Klimova & Ponamarenko. The hypocrisy was so overwhelming that they penalized Judy & Michael for using a classical piece of Scheherazade, while rewarding T&D skating to Bolero with the gold, while everyone gushed about how they managed to "transcend their sport". Sounds to me like the judges were using 2 different rule books. Judging has always been political and biased against American skaters. I can cite many examples, but I'm sure you know already, since you sound pretty well-informed. Yes, I miss these days of skating. It was so much more genuine and skaters knew how to interpret music. Now, it seems like you could replace the music with any piece because it seems like just background music, anyway. I'm a professional musician, so I know these things.
