Dane Erik Gundersen won his first Speedway World Championship from countryman Hans Nielsen who defeated American Lance King in a run-off for second and third places.

Though im a Belle Vue fan Erik Gundersen was my fav rider . I was at Bradford in 85 watching him beat Neilsen & Ermolenko in the run off . Best meeting ever , and also at Bradford when he broke his neck . Thank you for bringing my childhood memories back , it means a lot .

Think Dave lanning says it all ? So many legends retired. Think that’s when it changed. Unfortunately Simon wigg great rider showman nice guy was not promoted by British press.
