You're creating such a powerful memories with your children. This is how I became an absolute petrolhead, when my dad was taking me for a drive in loads of different cars, telling me all their history, showing me how the cars were in his youth. A massive respect for that. Yet, that Aston is an absolute masterpiece, and thanks to the owner for lending it so people can see it. Watching your videos reminds me how it felt when I was a small little man thinking of nothing more than cars. Can't wait for another video

My Dads daily driver from 1972 - 1977 was a 1971 Aston Martin DBS6 Vantage - I was born in 1971 and we were a family of five. It wasn't until we became a family of six that the Aston couldn't cope. My memories of the Aston are terrific - my first two words at six months were Dadda and car! I guess that tells you all you need to know? Wen Dad bought the car in 1972 it was £3000 and petrol (5 star) was under 50p/gallon. Also, the Aston is really strong and a good car to be in, if you're unfortunate enough, to be in a accident. A manual gearbox transforms the car into a real road burner.

What a lovely thing. Strikes me it's from an era when performance engines were more about torque than outright power... So I imagine it was lovely to waft along the motorway, even if the 0-60 didn't set your hair on fire. A fantastic video!

Always been my ultimate car from when I was 15, I was surprised that they are not that fast on acceleration but it does not matter, its all about how you feel driving it and owing it.

Having owned a AMV8 since the late 80’s and had 2 young boys grow up with it the car it becomes part of the family. “3rd child”. I fitted period children’s seats at the time. We used it as a club car and all went well but fuel smells resulted in several several lost lunches. As a regular family car I’d say no chance but for smiles and respect it’s a class act and even moderns Aston’s struggle to achieve. Love ‘em!

Love the review Ben. Your enthusiasm is great to watch. My father had DBS in the 70s and AMV8 in the 80s and brought me home from hospital in one as a new born. I remember sitting in the back as a child and in my uncle’s one too. I’m now on the look out for one to add to my small collection as you hit the nail on the head. Making memories with your family is everything and yes as a father of three it’s fantastic to know how one can live with these and fit your kids in.

I had one of these back in the 90s. took my 2 children in it most weekends in the summer.. Loved it.

Yes. In the 70's my dad had a DB4 MkIII. Great memories and the smell of leather I will never forget. To us the back seats weren't small, but we were! That's nothing on my uncle's early 30's Aston Martin LeMans coupe. That had a tiny back seat and even as youngsters it was small. He took us to Ascot where he sold that Le Mans at auction and en-route we had to get dressed on that back seat/padded shelf. We set off in the small hours in our pyjamas. Still all great memories. To those reading, no I was not born with a silver spoon. My dad was a bricklayer and bought a used Aston with literal chickens in the back, did it up and used it. In the 70's a DB4 was just a used Aston, not the classic it is today. My uncle might have had a few quid though. ... And yes, of course I am now a massive AM fan and I would love one, a classic one at that. I'm just not able until my numbers come up!

Ben, you are a legend...😊 I come from Sweden but was born and raised in the UK, Essex (yes - heard all the jokes). When I was tiny my father took a picture of me sitting on his cousin's DB6 (?) on a driveway in Dagenham... I think... Memories like that are so precious for kids... thanks for sharing your's with us all!

Ah…uncle had an electric blue V8 Aston…I remember it being a real treat as a toddler in the back but don’t remember using the seatbelts as sat on mums lap hahaha. 😂 preferred my dads RR Silver Cloud 3 in the back as had lovely deep carpets😅 lol

That shape of Aston Martin is my ABSOLUTE favourite car - of ALL TIME!! It's the British Mustang, just with more class and sophistication! A total beast and the embodiment of power and brute strength, yet displaying reserve and depth at the same time! I'll hopefully end up with a Rapide S before long, just because I really don't have a deep enough wallet either to buy, or maintain, my true love - such is life!!!

Great episode mate! My father started working as a salesman at Mercedes-Benz in 1991 and these days I drive one of those old cars he started working with back in the day…memories are made when I see myself as a child (in the back) and as an adult (in the front nowadays) at the same time when driving my old Coupé with a son in the back. So yes, I am totally convinced once you care about it - you can use those cars even as a daily. Cheers!

And now - you HAVE to test the manual Vantage version of this era!!! (Ideally the RS Williams 7.3 litre one!!)

The single most beautiful body shape of any Aston Martin to date!! It has even more brutish appeal than even the Bullitt Mustang, yet with a gorgeous refined interior. For me, it beats even the DB5 hands down!!! Sorry, Cdr Bond! This time you lose!! And, in response to your comment, I have NEVER sat in one of these at any age. So childhood experiences had nothing to do with it, yet ever since my late teens, this era of Aston V8 has remained my unchallenged dream car! I have been lucky enough to own a DB9 a couple of years back and I'm currently scheming to find a way into a Rapide S, with the Aston Installations ICE upgrade!!! THAT will be my realistic and achievable pinnacle of perfection!

FYI - the final manual X-Pack cars could, on a nice, wet road, would literally spin the rear wheels on full throttle - at 70 or 80mph, such was the torque they produced!!

I don't recommend holding it at around 10,000 rpm to warm up and spread the oil.... You're more likely to spread the engine over your drive!!!

I've owned my 1976 AM V8 for about 20 years now, which means my two daughters grew up with it. I'd love to be able to say that they remember the experience fondly, but... Perhaps it was the intoxicating aroma of old leather and petrol that didn't quite do it for them. Or maybe they didn't appreciate the approving looks I received from women who were not my wife...! Anyway, no doubt they will one day be pleased that it'll help pay for my old folks home. Having said all this, my eldest daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed taking a 5,500 km road trip together when she was eighteen. It was special in so many ways, not the least of which was the unique opportunity to bond. These are truly awesome cars, and I wish one of my kids loved it as much as I do to want to inherit it. Ah, we should have ordered up a son!

As an American and as someone who who loves classics, That part about how many buyers for these cars are bought by older guys who now have money and grew up with them in some fashion, but us younger guys(Under 45-50) have 0 experience or have super limited experience with them to where we just dont care. Thats so true.. Here in America at least, the Boomers were really rude to us getting to close to their old cars and tell us to watch ourselves when around their dime a dozen classic. And if we had a family member who had classics, they were essentially off limits and us riding in them was never even considered. If we were fortunate to be allowed a ride in the classic, it was always short and by our family members terms. I'm 31 and my uncle has a classic Corvette, but the few times Ive managed to get him to let me get seat time behind the wheel is effectively a weeks long courting ritual lol. The amount of buttering him up just to let me have 20 minutes behind the wheel is insane. Especially when he knows I have driven other classics and ones that are older, I also own a muscle car. And its hard to get wheel time.

Children should be banned from flying in aero planes (unless they are stashed in the cargo hold) and riding in Classic Cars. Again unless they are shoved in the boot!
