Rare 1985 Buick Century T-Type purchased at an estate auction. One of just 2,850 built. It’s going to take some work to get this classic eighties car back in shape, but it did make it home.

This Buick Century T-type is super rare. They didn't sell many of them and God knows how many are still around today. Please do not modify this rare car and try to keep it as stock as possible. It's in beautiful shape and is such a wonderful car to behold. I've always been a fan of the more sporty T-Type Buicks and the Centuries are some of the most rare since most people that wanted a sporty Buick went for the Regal, Lesabre or Electra. Awesome car.

My dad bought an ‘86 Buick Century T-Type for me to drive in high school. I absolutely loved that car. It was the definition of a sleeper. Mine had the 3.8 L V6, the more aggressive nose (the grille was actually raked backward slightly) and the grille was blacked out. It was silver with gray interior, and it had a digital dash display. He traded it in on something else when I was away at college. He bought it for me to drive, not “for me.” I was crushed. I keep looking for one to pop up, but I know the likelihood of me finding one is low. Man, do I miss that car.

Awesome find! My grandmother had an '86 Century T-Type, black with a gray interior on GoodYear Eagle GT+4s. I loved driving that thing. I've been looking for one like it for a long time--or even a nice non-T-Type that I could make into a T-Type clone.

This car seems to have found the right buyer - someone who will appreciate it and fix it up, rather than just using it and not taking care of it, or sending it to the junkyard over some minor issues. I'm glad you know what it is and want to save it. It is an interesting car, and definitely cool with the 3800 V6 and the nicer options that the T type came with (e.g. sport steering wheel and full instrumentation on the dash). The 3800 was actually a big engine in a small car, so I bet it has good power.

A few things.... 1.) While the parking brake might have never been used then jammed down that wont make em lock. The A body has an issue with them locking up while cold or wet for the first few miles at low speeds. Especially after sitting a few days....even if the brake shoes / drums are new. 2.) If you are sitting in traffic(or crawling real slow) especially in the heat they WILL run hot. Found out the hard way many times. Lol. 3.) Third brake lights were optional from the factory in 1985.....mandated by the government for 86. 4.) Check or replace the water pump and the electric fan if you plan on racking up the miles....also if it has a coolant temp sensor. Ive had two 3300's before my current one and both ive ended up changing that stuff when it would just stop working and it would always happen at the worst time too. Keeping in mind the 3300 is the 3.8 younger brother....

Haha, oh the nostalgia. My first was an ‘87 T-Type - also white but with blue upholstery. Extra-cool part about that car? I bought it in ~2002... from the original owner. He was a retired, life-long GM employee - was a mechanic for at least part of his career & as a hobby - he *meticulously* maintained & stored that thing. No, smokers, no kids, no pets - backseat/back half of the car looked like it had never been occupied by anything but grocery bags. He had a different car for the winter and kept the Century safe and salt-free in the garage. So despite being a ~15 year old Michigan car - it was totally rust free. The only thing wrong with it, as noted in this video, was the obligatory saggy headliner over the back seat. Owner addressed this by cutting a narrow band of wood, painting it same color as the liner... and that inconspicuous wooden arch corrected 99% of the sagging without looking trashy or weird. Can’t remember the mileage when I got it, but the thing was amazing. I took it on 3-4 1,200mi road trips and only problems I had during those were tire issues - never mechanical hiccups. Man, now I’m really missin that car. Sold it to an uncle after a few years since I needed a 4WD for lots of backroad / drifted snow driving - wish I could have afforded to keep it - unfortunately, uncle didn’t keep it long before he sold it to someone for peanuts. Thanks for the video & some good info on the T-Type Centuries of the mid-80s, been a while since I tried to do any research. I had entirely forgotten about the RPM indicator light strip until seeing it here, what a car.

Those 80 GM cars all had head gasket issues which caused those cars to run hot especially the 2.8 a thermostat a new radiator and possibly a new head gasket will cure it if it starts to run hot when driving turn the Heat on it’ll take the engine temp down.
