Nice job,we had a few replicas back in the day when new at the dealer I worked for,they were all sr5 models with the 22rte turbo. They were not called hilux for the U.S. market though for that era,and the bed difference was the hooks on the outside rail meant it was a complete unit upon importation with the bed built in Japan,the smooth bed was built in the U.S. and installed at the port of entry. This was so Toyota could evade the tariffs on imported trucks at the time,if it didn't have the bed,it was not considered a completely built unit,therefore no tarrif of 25%. The japan built bed was a much more solid design as far as how it's seams were put together,that bed would outlast the U.S. built one simply because of the construction of the panels,we would replace so many of the beds and lower panels on the smooth side bed because of rust at the seams. Either way,they were a really cool truck and awesome to see a restored one on the road every now and again.

fun fact... in the US we had what you call the Aussie spec truck beds but they only came on the 2wd toyota trucks. I had a 1986 2wd when I was in my early 20's and it had the hooks on the outside of the railing. None of our 4wd models had that though. You did a damn good job welding in that metal to make your bed look like USA spec.

@@HeathsGarage Ya good on you mate. Here in the states, I think it might be a more numerous vehicle than down there, but we just don't see it on the daily as we have over a quarter of a billion people here. We have so many vehicles that something like this gets lost in the crowd is what I am trying to say I guess? So to me, it feels like a rare vehicle. How hard was it to find a Hilux there in Australia? I reckon not hard? Here in Texas we do have them but they are getting up there in price now as most have been trashed by now. So a GOOD one cost major bank. BTTF is my all time favorite movie series, so seeing a person recreate a major vehicle from that series like this excites me. I always loved that truck.
@HeathsGarage

BFKAnthony817 They aren’t too common in Australia, most have been trashed or rusted out. The biggest problem is our tray/Ute tub was different that the US spec - so that is a lot of work to make it look movie accurate. It is hard to try and find a better movie than BTTF! 😎👌🏽
@BFKAnthony817

@@HeathsGarage Ah you mean bed was different than US spec. Was not sure what you meant there for a minute then I figured out tray/ute tub meant bed. ;) That is why I love Australia, you guys have the coolest slang. Always wanted to live there since I saw Crocodile Dundee when I was 3 back in the 80's. I was born in 83. I am 36 now, not rich enough to move there sadly haha.

I'm absolutely shocked you only did two coats of base and two coats of clear. You're an absolute madman lol. Are not you worried about the final polish cutting the clear too deep? It looks freaking amazing though! Like an Obsidian Mirror. Very beautifully shot my dude.
@HeathsGarage
@HeathsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Haha Thankyou! It was a very high solid clear. But I am more than happy with the finish off the spray gun as this will be my daily driver. With my KITT project that will be getting more clear then cut back and flow coated as that will be more of a show car :)
