The 1985/86 Tri Series clincher played at the MCG on February 9, 1986. Australia power past the Kapil Dev led India side for a seven wicket win. Alan Border steers the Aussies home with an unbeaten 65. Highlights of both innings plus the presentation ceremony.

I was watching with my brother & Dad during those early cool mornings under zero volume, after setting a wake up alarm. Same with my mother too but our Dad defended us😊. We brushed our teeth during the break & watched the second session of the match with warm coffee always. We always used to fear David Boon’s devastating batting.Great memories!

@@ganessinv as an Indian, I too happen to greatly admire MSD. But Allan Border is in a different league altogether. Dhoni no doubt was apart from being a great skipper also a great batsman. But his batsmanship genius was limited mostly to ODIs while the true examination of batting greatness is still measured based on how one performs against tough opponents in adverse conditions in tests. And history, stats as well as analytical judgement are witness to the fact Border is next only to Sir Don Bradman as Australia's greatest batsman ever and one of the greatest in all cricket history, ahead in several quarters of even the likes of Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, even Viv Richards and several more. While as a captain, Border competes directly with Clive Lloyd, Peter May and Steve Waugh. In short, some "borders" aren't meant to be crossed.

Interesting match, Srikanth (known as a fast scorer) scored 37 off 71 balls!! On the other hand Ravi Shastri (renowned as a super slow scorer) scored 49 off just 52 balls!!! And this against Aus in Aus at the world's biggest cricket ground (MCG).
@raghavanand5554

Maybe. But this was after Srikkanth being ridiculed for playing irresponsibly. Srikkanth was the real inventor of aggressive cricket (adopted later by players like Jayasuriya, Greatbatch, Sehwag, etc.). Don't compare Shastri and Srikkanth. They had different styles.

Australian grounds had crazy settings those days, Black side screen was inside the boundary line and spiky fence which injured many players while fielding.

This was the first piece of silver Australia won under Allan Border, already a year into his captaincy. The second was the 1987 World Cup, which I as a 14 year old going on 15 was going to be happy, going into the tournament just to make the semi-finals! They should have won the wsc the next year, but Botham bothamed them in the finals, then after that aforementioned world cup victory, won their first test series (under border] at home the following summer. They won the wsc that year - 1987-88 - , then won back the Ashes in 1989 and from then on, only the still mighty West Indies thrawted Australia until Mark Taylor took over, followed by Steve Waugh andRicky POnting. It is a crime to undersell what Allan Border did to revive Australian cricket.

Border brought in a culture to Australian cricket. He got a rockstar's welcome whenever he played at home. He got that extremely competitive spirit and never die attitude. I would say he was the man who brought ruthlessness to Aussie cricket. 1992 world cup was Australia's to lose but 4 other teams played out of their skin to reach the semifinals. Taylor had a gentleman approach to cricket but Steve brought in the ruthless attitude, the rest was history until Clarke arrived.
