Ten years later the same happened with DEUTZ. In 1995 KHD sold the rest of their farm equipment business to the Italian SAME group, so today a big part of the DEUTZ-FAHR line are green painted SAMEs.

That opening and the lime green paint shows how little KHD understood their market.

You got that right. It was never a thought from my dad to buy a calf sh!t green tractor after being an Allis man with American made equipment for 20 years. I guess that's why he has no enthusiasm about today's farm equipment at the age of 81. Same goes for my farming uncles and cousins. I'm the only one of the bunch who ever owned anything Deutz, an SM70 Deutz-Allis discbine. I wish I had never seen it either, not because of the job it did but because of the parts availability and cost and even worse the complicated build that makes it near impossible to repair on your own.... and don't ask me about reading their repair manual written in english so poor I was scratching my head trying to figure out just what they were trying to tell me. Now just the other day I bought a new Kuhn mower so I must be a glutton for punishment!

I love Deutz Tractors.. still working our DX 90, 130 in the fields till this day and looking for a 62 series with a loader for our non farm stuff. some of the best running tractors for how old they are.. never had issues with em starting up in the cold either. just simple and robust design.

Laughable how they brag about the 8000 series and the implements made by Allis Chalmers when they were in the process of destroying it

I think if production of ALLIS-CHALMERS tractors and implements had been profitable KHD wouldn´t have ceased production

mr Bill But DEUTZ made at this time good machinery. I think changing name and color and the unknown aircooled engines were the reasons that so many american farmers denied buying DEUTZ-ALLIS equipment.

Deutz was in Europe very strong because of their quality, they made a mistake by closing the plants and order the tractors from other manufacturers (White), people were not ready for this.. bad management in my opinion, it finally costed so much money they sold their business to SLH group.

Deutz tried to sell a green tractor to people who never wanted green tractors to start with thats why they went under

And they tried forcing the farmer to buy a foreign made air cooled engine. I worked at an AGCO dealer about a year after AGCO was formed and talking with the farmer customer there, they didn't want anything to do with an overgrown briggs being put in a calf sh!t green tractor, to put it in their words. Saying that, I know for the most part the Deutz engine is a well built engine and if cared for properly, they are long lasting but that doesn't matter when they weren't saleable here and they were very expensive and no one knew how to care for them and the fact that they are finicky to work on.

@@SilverGleaner Yes, the Deutz engine is a good engine, if cared for properly. Lots of constriction machines use Deutz, and they rarely had any problems, but the chaff and whatnot you get around the engine in tractors and combines presented special considerations for the cooling systems. You have to keep them clean, and the notorious push rod tubes leaking just made the problem that much worse. Deutz engine fires in combines was a major problem.

@@m16ty When I worked at an AGCO shop for 4 years, April 1991 to January 1995, we never had trouble in that time with any tractor engine, and frankly neither did we have trouble in any of the few combines we sold. In our area the R50 was probably the best seller and I don't think that combine had as many fires as the V8 models. BTW The Deutz repair manuals for the early Deutz-Allis products were horrible to understand.

@@SilverGleaner Have been quite a few Gleaner engine fires around here, but other brands seem to burn too from time to time. The Cummins powered Gleaners don't seem to be as bad with fires as the Deutz, On a combine, especially in beans, you have to remove the engine covers every day and clean everything out, otherwise it would overheat. Also, the push rod tubes are known to leak, this would make chaff and dust stick inside the airbox that much worse. Not a bad engine, but most people don't clean them as often as needed. The fan wears more than you'd think also. My brother had a R52 with overheating issues. Finally figured out the fan was worn out. It didn't look worn out just by looking at it, but when you compared it to the new fan, you could really tell it.
@SilverGleaner
@SilverGleaner 3 жыл бұрын
@@m16ty There is a measurement taken at the fan to determine when it should be replaced. The problem with that is first, most owners have no idea of checking that measurement, and second, the expense of the German parts are painfully high. That fan, last I checked was well over $1000. Of course Cummins has its own problems with the water pump coming apart and sending the fan into the radiator which is a very big expense. Check the water pump for a loose bearing before each season and hopefully you can catch it in time.
