@@bufnyfan1 Excuse me, but that little faux pas by Smith need not have proven fatal. Gretzky and his hotshot bunch of Oilers had almost 15 minutes of hockey left in regulation in that seventh game to score the one goal they needed to answer it, and they COULDN'T DO IT! Edmonton never had the lead in the series itself, and Calgary took three of the four games on Edmonton ice. Sorry, but you can't blame everything on Steve Smith.

@Acnoth2 жыл бұрын
As impressive as Roy is shown in the overtime, this video doesn't really depict just how badly the Rangers outplayed the Canadiens in regulation. Also, if the NHL is serious about increasing goal production, make the goalies wear pads similar to then. Maybe not quite that small, as we don't want injuries, but get them out of the huge padding they wear now.
@MisterMister58932 жыл бұрын
It’s also the evolution of goaltending techniques. You could tell these two were not as aggressive as they were years later. Johnny b. Never wore oversized padding but he developed a better system, Honestly, neither really looked like they tried much here outside of the OT show Roy put on.

There were signs in this game of a poorly designed system where MTL leaves the points wide open all the time something they do all the time for the past 20 years..The difference however is that Mtl had several legit key role players that can score goals something they have lacked for many years since their 93 cup.IMO perhaps one of the most important aspects of a team is the scouting and manager and in case of late the coaching example Bergeron was a horrible coach. MZTL has had the same lead scout for a very long time and he has not got the job done as well poor management means they keep pushing just hard enough to never truly be a cup contender but also never get a top draft pick. This year looks to be the first in a very long time where they have a chance at the number 1 pick but sadly is there truly a GREAT player to be had at #1 the Crosby or Lemieux or Gretzky type player ...i don't think so.They did do a recent good job of securing draft picks but time has proven 2nd round picks almost never materialize into more than 3rd line players and even first picks need to be top 7/8 at worse. Point being idk man but for us Habs fans it might be a VERY long time before a legit cup contender.I don't count those FAKE years where they had incredible luck to get to the finals because in those years they were never really a good team.

Having looked it up, Vanbiesbrouck was a slightly more pedestrian 25/29 0.862% in this particular game, but 2 of the goals were breakaways, the last one in OT being a 2-man break due to a blocked shot and a nice takedown by the linesman, and Vanbiesbrouck did have a 2 decade career and won 374 games, so he's probably okay with your "scathing criticism".
