Looks cool but massively unreliable (like many things about the early C4 Corvette). IMO the mixed digital analogue revision of the 1990 MY has aged better. Still a really unappreciated generation of the Corvette

I feel like these aged far more gracefully than people back then expected. I've seen many complaints from auto journalists about this style of gauge cluster at the time, which honestly might be why we got stuck with boring dials for the 90's and 2000's instead of seeing the tech behind these refined.

I had one of these. I didn't like the Captain Video display and readouts at first, but grew to like it. Had to switch between oil press/temp, or voltmeter/fuel. At night it looked great, but gradually began to fade out, as all of them eventually do. Repair was $500 (twenty years ago).

@@bochok5694 How true. More electronical gizmos to go bad. I don't trust them, and prefer analog gauges. A sign of the time, I guess! Fortunately, my '06 Corvette still has the good old analogs. Also my '90 454SS and 2015 GMC. I'll enjoy them while I can! Guess I'm just too "old-school".

@@stevencramsie9172youre thinking of the C3 friend, this had engines ranging from 205hp (in the lowest trims) to more than 300 in the highest (I believe almost 300 in the standard trim) This aint Malaise bullshit although the initial C4s had lower output because they came around there, the "golden age" started by the end of the 80s (when this 5.0l or more V8s with 100hp bullshit went down)

I had an '88 roadster that I bought in '96. I loved that car. It had a lot of idiot lights on a second cluster. I loved all the toggle switches for metric to imperial etc. The backlight went out on one side around 2002 and it cost me $600 to get it repaired.
