Also this is in memory of a wonderful P.O. Tommy Ruotolo from Fort Apache in the Bronx who was senselessly gunned down by a violent parolee who already had a rap sheet of manslaughter and Robbery. RIP Tommy. Thank you Ret P.O. Joe Johnson for being the wonderful caretaker for this Fury.

@@styldsteel1 thanks for posting a with such great view around this car! I have few questions if you might explain or describe; are the front headlight flashers actually "long beam" headlights flashing (those closest to the grill) on this type of Plymouth and does the red rotation signal light popular "cherry" goes on roof top or it is only on cars from detectives from that time, is this a unmarked fleet patrol or for detectives?
@styldsteel1
@styldsteel1 3 ай бұрын
@@prime6220 thank you very much my friend! The unit that is installed causing the high beams to wig wag, is called a high beam over ride. It is a standard sealed high beam. The rotating " bubble gum machine" is detachable by a magnet. I cannot confirm this, but perhaps this light was added later as this detective saw fit this Fury never saw pursuit, but he'd roll down the window, place it in the roof, activate it, and did what he had to do. As for was it popular? I guess some departments would want or require one. But it sure adds to the cool factor! I hope I answered your questions! And I thank you for watching!

@@styldsteel1 great man, thanx for answering. I thought so for this "red bubble gum machine"😀 Is it allowed to buy in US a vehicle that was used than withdrawn from police force, especially these cars that have mounted front push-bar?? I guess that all official decals/insignia from law enforcement must be removed, but what about those signal lights/siren and even front push-bar is it still allowed to keep them?!?

@@prime6220 yes! And that is a great question! So, I. A nutshell, yes. It's all legal. Police have no quams about the push bars, nothing illegal there, now here's where things get hairy. If I am caught sounding the lights and sirens on a public road, that would be an extremely serious offense. If it has decals, they would have to come off for reasons you wouldn't dream about! Lol..... Each design on the doors of every police department, is a copyright ©️! Lol!! I don't t wanna get sued😯😠. The spot light is fine, cars from the 1940s on up were offered as options. Why? So you can see the numbers on the houses to find your way home. . Seriously! I'm not even joking 😃😃

First of all, thank you for your service. I could never really pinpoint what made this car's appearance so authoritative. But I think you nailed it. The Baby moons and the plain black steelies play a big part. I particularly enjoy watching raw footage of NYC thought the 1980s, and you are guaranteed to see a Diplomat, or Fury. I bought this Gran Fury directly from the P.O. that drove it and when he retired, brought it down to FL with him. My car was featured in a Featurette that P.O. Johnson made in honor of his Colleague, P.O. Tommy Reutolo who was senselessly gunned down by a violent parolee. The car is wearing full wheel covers which I don't care for, but all four are stored in the trunk. But anyway.. Please check out Joe's Video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7h6iK171JfHZZs.html

A friend of mine in high school bought a Dodge Diplomat police car at a county vehicle auction. I'm sure he had a blast! Being it still had that serious, " don't mess with me" appearance. I can only imagine if I put the lights and siren on, on today's public highway. It wouldn't end well 😞 Although about 3 years ago, the religious Jewish guy cut me off so friggen bad, no signals, I mean no regard for my life I had to slam my brakes and nearly cut someone else off. I put the spots on, lights, sirens, the whole nine. Got behind him, pulled this bum over, I yelled stay here and don't even think about moving. The M body cop cars always scared the living crap outta me in the 80s. Once you see that face in your rear view, man you know it's over. The good old days

Dodge Diplomat/Plymouth Gran Fury/ Chrysler Town and Country Station Wagon, they came in 4 doors, 2 doors and wagons. Because the M body Chryslers were bullet Proof, they were employed heavily for fleet use. FBI, taxi, and Police. Bet you never knew KZfaq can be so educational! 🤔👍

@@styldsteel1 I had a 1979 Chrysler New Yorker with the 360 engine, it was basically the same as the Dodge St' Regis platform which they used for the police cars. That New Yorker was one of the most reliable cars I ever had. My dad drove it from Texas to California several times and put 80,000 miles on it driving around town and gave it to me, I drove it from California to Oregon then to Minneapolis where I put 20,000 miles on it in harsh winter conditions, I tuned it up with bosch platinum spark plugs, accel 8 mm plug wires and distributer cap etc, that motor ran like a watch. I then drove it to Texas to Arizona where I put 20,000 more miles on it in harsh desert heat conditions. I never had any problems with it until 230,000 miles when the overdrive transmission began to slip, I could have had it rebuilt, but a friend with a 1972 Duster wanted to buy it to swap the motor into the Duster, it worked great and was still running good.

@@BarryWinner2075 exactly! Regarding the oil changes. Well, don't kick yourself too hard, I mean we were in all different stages in our lives and we all made decisions, albeit hasty ones. But I'm in a spot myself now, and I'm trying to make some decisions regarding oil changes. I do own a fleet of cars, and of course the more cars I buy, the mileage driven keeps getting divided. Now 3 to 4 thousand between changes is just permanent. But I drive my classics including the Fury maybe 700 to 800 a Year. So I was for a time changing good, clean golden fresh oil, and I'm thinking maybe not such. Good idea. Some folks say, the shelf life of oil is 1 year, some say, still. Drive the 3000 miles, but for me, that could take years. I've been going by the shelf life of one year.

@@muckle8 thank Goodness for small miracles! No smog. I can see where the equipment was removed, hoses capped, and so on. A side, minor note, after 25 years in NY, cars are only required for a safety annual inspection. Lights, signals, all that kind of stuff, no tailpipe sniffers. All 3 of my M bodies have this same drivetrain. Let me tell you. Like you say, it's god-damned bullet proof.i enjoy them thoroughly.!!

Show me one of these with a 4 speed and I'll be impressed. Otherwise, they're all the same old 318 CRAP.

I don't know Ray, The 318s are a very rock solid and reliable power plant. Costs me nothing in repairs, burns no oil, the Torque Flite is smooth as a kitten. I've driven it at pretty high speeds in the boiling sun, 90 degrees plus. Maybe you've had some bad 318s?

@@styldsteel1 No, seriously they're like driving a shoe box. I'm still driving a mopar, if you consider a 2005 Dodge SRT-4 a mopar. But, it's light years ahead, in overall improvement. of the unimaginative/uninspiring 318 things I've been forced to see millions of them, and wonder why it took so long (up to 2005), to come out with the car which I see no need to replace any time soon. I've had 1 uninspiring 318, and 2 uninspiring 360 engines. My latest, a turbo 4 in my Dodge, all stock, blows away anything I've ever had. The v8 clunkers of the 80s are just that clunkers, with some electronic ignitions. I'd rather have a 1966 Plymouth Satellite, w/4 speed manual. Or maybe a 1968 Barracuda with either big or small block, with 4 speed manual. I really will be sad when it's finally time to part with my current mopar. I don't have money for another one OR to restore any other performance car.

@@InsanityHere I"m in the same boat really. I had my hand in trying to restore a 48 Hudson Commodore. What a mistake this was. got back just mere pennies on the dollar. Next time I just buy a car that's already been through, or else..nothing doin. Never again.
