I grew up with old land yachts like this. I was a kid when they were in use at my families summer house, but I remember having fond memories of them. We didn’t have a Cadillac, we had a 78 Caprice classic and an 80 Buick Electra, that said, I genuinely miss riding around in cars like this.

...and finally one that didn't have the Dealership's badging permanently affixed to the trunk lid! I wish you didn't take'r out in the rain/wet roads? When my wipers sound like that (actually before), I replace the blades. I'm with you on keeping cars "original". I still have my 1984 Datsun 300ZX Turbo with 7,400 original miles; never out in rain or weather. The wipers are original (oops!). I haven't ever used them, but since that car has had very limited "Sun" time over past 40 years, they still look great.

Thanks for the cruise Bill, my brother-in-law started his limo company back in the 70s. He always drove big Cadillacs as limos. And still does to this day and he named it D'Elegance Sedan Service. It is still named that to this date, he has a ct-6 and an Escalade. Even found a low Mile 2019 CT6 as they don't make them anymore. I really enjoy your channel 👍🏻

This was when Cadillac realized their mistake on that junky 4100 V8 so they finally came out with an acceptable Olds 307 engine. They later did the 350 which is what they should’ve done here. But this was a step in the right direction and I remember that commercial Best of all it’s a Cadillac. I don’t remember people talking about mobsters in this car because in the Midwest a lot of the older people drove these nice Cadillacs and even some of the ones in their 40s did because they were a nice luxury car. Some of my relatives did also.

The HT 4100 had 125 horsepower when first introduced in 1982, it was up to 130 by 1986. The 5.0 in the Broughams were 140 horsepower.

@@christianbugatticg - I wonder whether the 4100 car you drove was modified? The 5.0 litre from 88 did 0-60mph in just over 12.5 seconds with a 1/4 mile of nearly 20 seconds. You're definitely right, it's not a powerhouse!!! The 4100 was even worse. 0-60 mph in about 14.5 seconds with a 1/4 mile of over 20 seconds.

My 78 coupe deville cruise control was inoperable. The amber light would come on to indicate system on and the green light would come on to show system engage and it wouldn't hold the speed. Turned out the contacts on the solenoid were corroded and gave them a good cleaning and now the cruise control works.

The Tuned Port Injection 350 would have been so nice. But, the 307 and TBI 350 were way better than the 4100. Very nice color combo on this one. Usually you’ll see a beige on white. I’ve always thought the grey looks so much cleaner.

Not my number 1 dream but pretty darn close. I remember having GM vehicles of this era and older where the cruise didn't work at slow speeds. I don't know exactly what is was but I do remember being told not to try to use it under 55 mph. I can't see how fast you are going but I guess its possible ??

Hey thanks! It is strictly in the video, something about the way the camera records. Does that on every digital readout.
@komradkolonel

I think that the software in the engine and transmission computer changed the shift points depending on what engine it had. If it had the 4100 the transmission would hold the gears longer and shift later to get better acceleration due to that engine's lower torque. With the 307 and especially the 350 that came later the transmission would shift earlier for better gas mileage. Of course that sacrificed acceleration. At least that's how I've heard it explained.
@christianbugatticg
@christianbugatticg Жыл бұрын
That sounds right
@TeeroyHammermill
@TeeroyHammermill Жыл бұрын
@komradkolonel: 4100 actually ran better than 307 due to it's sophisticated EFI setup. Neither one had a transmission computer to control shift points. 4100 was geared shorter 3.42 for 4100 vs 2.73(86-87)-2.93(88-90) for the 307. The computer only controlled the torque converter.
