Had a 88 with ttops with 350 in it that thing was that you could supp this engine's to the max and were durables engines back then.

This is one of 80's muscle car finest. Amazing how performance has changed from today's car's. I love my 86 SS, but the stock motors these came with def need more power.

I had one and I couldn't agree with you more.The 305 was a real teaser engine for that nascar body type design.

It’s not worth it . 305 and 350 “mildly” built Chevy engines are basically the same .The 350 would have maybe 15 more hp .

P21565R15 is factory.. but i put P23560R15 on and made it much better

Hell yeah! A 350 weighs the same a a 305, everything will bolt up nice. I would stay carb'd, put a nice cam/heads/full length header set up with true duals and you've gone from mid 15s to the high 12s. No need to buy a restored one that's stock..just a waste of money!

That does'nt mean that's how fast it can go. Most cars of the 80's had 85mph speedometers, but it takes less than 100 horsepower to get you to 85mph. Most cars have at least that.

At 3:28 the monte ss decal is too low on the trunk lid. That's the only thing I would correct.

I like the silver, the burgundy or white there all beautiful I worked for horizon Chevrolet in Naperville I'll, I was a parts person we did dealer trades all the time they would have me and some times another employee drive these brand spanking new Monti Carlo SSs,s with only 12 mi on them to and from different dealerships!!!!! Talk about fun, and they payed for lunch miss those days I know the Monti SS very well love em gonna get a nice one... FRANK W MSSSSSSCHIEF...thank you

You are correct. I was asking why though. A 454 is a 7.4 liter big block which is better than a 5.7 350 ci. small block motor. Might as well go big if you want ride in an SS. Those stock 305's are slow as hell. Trust me my Dad has a 1985 Monte Carlo SS. It sounds fast but no speed at all. It maxes out at 85 mph.

These cars are not the fastest but they certaintly don't max out at 85. i've owned plenty of these things, stock & modified.

It’s also hard to keep it out of the hands of a certain type of person who ruins them and puts big rims on them. Lack of respect for a great piece of sexiness. My aunt had one when I was growing up. I remember the day she got it too. That car was fast. We’d haul ass on the back roads and there’s one spot she would hit the gas so we could catch air on the pump in the road. Every time I hear collective soul I think of that car and the memories. Just like this one but no t tops.

Gage Betz the regular Montes have a better front end than the SS. The ss Montes front ends look like a bird nose or something...it doesnt really match the rest of the car. But then again the 88 LS Montes front ends didnt match the rest of the car either...it was like modern in the front and classic in the back lol. The last year that LS Montes looked good were the 85s..perfect all around car!
