This video segment is about the death of basketball legend Pistol Pete Maravich. On January 5, 1988, Pete Maravich collapsed and died at age 40 of heart failure while playing in a pickup basketball game in the gym at a church in Pasadena, California, with a group that included James Dobson of Focus on the Family fame. Maravich had flown out from his home in Louisiana to tape a segment for Dobson's radio show that aired later that day. Dobson has said that Maravich's last words, less than a minute before he died, were "I feel great." An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a rare congenital defect; he had been born with a missing left coronary artery, a vessel which supplies blood to the muscle fibers of the heart. His right coronary artery was grossly enlarged and had been compensating for the defect.
Maravich is buried at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Mausoleum in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

@BasketballJones48021

It’s true! Pete was averaging more than 25 points per game (and not only that), regardless… Now, would you rather have that or a guard that plays great lockdown defense? A guard can’t impact the game on the defensive end like a bigman can, and - again - Pistol is still going to get his numbers more often than not. A certain perimeter player can play great defense on Maravich but at the end of the day, Pete will have more points/impact than most great perimeter lockdown defenders. And even more, at his best, Pete’s defense wasn’t anywhere near bad. If we’re gonna talk about someone like Sidney Moncrief, for example… a player who would play lockdown defense while complementing that with very good offense, just enough to have more points and overall impact than any guard… that’s another thing; but players like those are EXTREMELY rare. Even someone like Michael Jordan… he was a terrific defensive player but you couldn’t have him on the opposing team’s best perimeter scorer for the majority of a single game… you’ll need his impact more on the offensive end. Of course that from a team perspective, having lockdown defensive guards is a huge asset, but starting a roster, what would you rather have? A Tony Allen or a Pistol Pete? Not even close…

You are correct. Dennis Johnson (also a retired BB player) and Bing Crosby said similar phrases to friends right before their fatal heart attacks. Real life is not like the movies where someone holds their chest and suddenly passes. Some heart attack victims apparently feel a genuine feel good buzz right beforehand. Puzzling really.

I believe, he also said, "I'd forgotten how much fun this Game was." He'd grown disenchanted, and hadn't played in quite a while, excepting with his boys maybe, with B-Ball. The good Lord took him while he was doing the one thing he excelled in, being on the court. But that I were to be so given such an honor when it becomes my turn.

Pete Maravich didn't know that he had only minutes to live. But he had prepared for his last minute when he received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. None of us know when our last minute will come - but it WILL come one day. Are you prepared to stand before God in judgment ? The ONLY way to be assured of eternal life is to trust ion the Lord Jesus Christ by faith to forgive you of your sins. You never know when your last minute will come.
