Last week I came home to a loud hissing sound, and looked back to find a half mile long trail of coolant on the ground. It was so much that my coolant was completely empty. I've ordered the new hoses and here's the install. I hope you guys can learn with me.

all that air in your cooling system can't be great. hope you ending up getting a proper no spill coolant funnel, that way you can actually get all the air bubbles out without spilling everywhere like it started to do. you gotta let it heat cycle for 10-15 mins to get most of the air out of the system.

This will come in useful. Might have been a good opportunity to fo a full coolant flush of the whole system.

We have pretty much the exact same model! Mine’s a 1995 UK spec 1.8iS (with the steering wheel on the correct side of course 😂) So I’ve saved this video for when (inevitably) my hoses go. Thanks! Just saw I left a comment 2 years ago haha. I did that coolant flush this summer. You wouldn’t believe the crap that came out! I had to flush it through with distilled water about four times before it came out clean. I have been losing coolant ever since though, so there must be a leak somewhere. The reserve tank needs filling about every ten days, though there are no puddles under the car and when I take off the radiator cap it’s always full. Bizarre, i guess it must be taking what it needs from the header tank. No steam in the exhaust and in four years she’s never overheated so I don’t think it’s the head gasket on it’s way out. Runs and idles like a dream.

Later on I replaced all of the hoses and did a flush. Mine wasn't too bad and I never lost any coolant. I did however just sell the Miata back in April. I never listed it for sale, some guy came up to me while I was sitting in it on my lunch break and told me he'd buy it off me. Paid an insane price. I'll get another some day.

@@TheAdventureAuto thanks for the reply! I don’t think I’ll ever sell mine. In the four years I’ve had it it has never missed a beat and has taught me all I know about car maintenance so there’s a real emotional attachment. Given what prices are like in Europe now for decent NAs I could probably sell it and use the proceeds to buy an early Porsche Boxster in the UK (I live in France) but I just can’t bring myself to do it. If you want another one I’d hurry up. Prices are going crazy. Mine cost me £890 back in 2017. There’s nothing in Autotrader UK under £2500 now. Dunno about the US but some people on KZfaq (Alex Perrucci) seem to be saying it’s the same over the pond. Prices in France have always been high, probably because unlike in the UK they don’t sell that many cabriolets here. Strange given the British weather 😂 but the UK is the biggest buyer of convertible cars in Europe ! My next buy will probably be an MGF which can still be had for about £1000 in the UK, but that’s not going to last ! Did you get the mid engined MGF in the USA?

@@robinforrest7680 Honestly I never thought I'd sell mine either. I learned so much on mine as well and loved driving it. It just so happened that I bought a Tesla in March so I thought it was meant to be I sold it a few days before I took delivery of the Tesla. I paid $4000 for the Miata and sold it for $7500. The buyer tried negotiating it down to $7000 and I told him I was firm. He said that's fair and paid it haha.

This just happened to me while driving home from work. Massive cloud of steam behind my car. Covered the whole under of my car and back with coolant... Ugh. Now to buy new hoses and coolant.

Dang man sorry to hear. Luckily it's an easy fix. Just check to see if your valve cover is leaking onto the hoses. That's what happened with mine. Oil dripped onto it causing it to deteriorate over time.

@@TheAdventureAuto Mine is doing the same, been putting it off for a year or so. Guess I asked for it! Time for a valve cover gasket and hoses.

@@Tuskanr I started my valve cover gasket job this morning. I got the old one out and all cleaned up for replacement tomorrow. So far seems simple.

Hi, I've just discovered the same leak in my mx5. I'm going to have a go myself. I don't need to empty the radiator as it's at the back do I ? It only leaks when the engine is running, a small spray comes out. Thanks in advance!
@TheAdventureAuto

You need to replace asap. Any coolant leak needs to be taken care of immediately because when hot it'll come out more and you'll run out of coolant and ruin the engine. Drain radiator which is in the front and replace hoses. When adding new coolant pour into radiator cap until it rises to the top. Let it run that way for a bit to let bubbles escape then replace cap.

I like these amateur videos. They don't make everything look easier than it is for an amateur. I just watched another video from a British guy on changing cooling system hoses, and he avoided the heater hoses because that one that goes to the back of the engine looks like such a bitch. On my Miata, those are the ones that need changing. Nice job. What did you use for editing software?

Thanks for the positive feedback. I use Movavi editor. It's free and works fairly well for the small amount of videos I put out.
