Hello, I have a good, 34000 mile Honda Aerodeck, 1987. I’m wondering whether you or any of your watchers/contacts maybe interested in it. It’s solid, never been welded. Engine and gearbox excellent as you’d expect for such a low Mileage car

While ‘Mr Honda’ was at the helm, Honda really did produce some beautifully assembled ultra reliable machines, and I personally think their attention to detail and desire to innovate stems from their involvement in motorcycle manufacturing. Compared to many other cars at the time, the aero deck was full of clever innovation touches that set it apart!!!

I had the EXi automatic. I really loved that car. Very reliable, and never broke down. The bearings on the alternator became noisy at 215,000 miles.... Loved the huge rear light clusters too!

Our family car in Australia from 1986 to 1996 was a 1986 Honda Civic Wagon. It had an automatic gearbox with and the interior design was quite similar, though a bit more down-market. It had similar cut-off rear styling, and the rear side windows wrapped over the roofline and also went below the belt line on the sides. Honda styling back then was very interesting!

My Father had a 2.0 exi 4walb saloon back in the day. This era of Honda was the best - both the Aerodeck and Prelude of this era have dated beautifully.

Back in the 80s or 90s it was a bit of a family joke about how my dad really wanted a Honda aerodeck. Some 30 years on he is sadly gone but looking at this video I think I get it at last. Thankyou !

I had 4 aerodecks, but because of Space and time i had to scrap and sell, then some years later i moved into bigger property and have enough space so i regret it deeply. They are great cars.

I agree with your sentiments on velour; it really is the most comfortable material for car seats and gives a plush, warm ambience to the cabin.

I'd say mk3 aerodeck... I've owned two of them, whenever I sat or drove them I had such a smile on my face. 1st one was a 2lt i, with alb. 2nd was the 2lt carb version, (both manual). Have such happy memories of both of them.

I remember liking these back then. Of the Japanese cars my ( subjective) preference was the Accords. Sad that they have almost disappeared though. Thank You.

I posted this in the comments of your Aerodeck vs Volvo 480 video - I vividly remember going with Dad on a test drive of a D reg silver EX manual at Steels Westgate of Hereford when I was a kid and I loved the rear with the velour on the side panels and that oh-so-cool glass tailgate where the glass went into the roof. He was always a Honda man, and hed had an earlier B reg 1985 Accord 1.6 DL 3 door at the time which was his pride and joy, but couldn't quite make the financials work to move up to the Aerodeck. Lovely to revisit these memories thanks to your videos. I followed my Dad and I am a Honda man through and through, I've had many Civics, CRXs, Integra DC2 Type R, S2000s over the years. Currently I have a year 2000 S2000 with 39K miles SORN'd for winter and a 2009 Civic Type R (FN2) as my daily driver. Some of my old favourites were my 1986 mk1 CRX 1.6i-16, mk2 CRX VTECs, '91 Civic 1.6i-VT. The mk1 CRX has a similar feeling interior (although much smaller obviously) to the Aerodeck with the wonderful push button heating controls from that era and velour sports seats. That was my first Honda at the age of 18/nearly 19 back in 1996. Loved the advertising of the day and they always had the connection to their dominant F1 success of the time. The 4 door Accord version of your Aerodeck was a handsome machine indeed and I remember the advert in the car mags just had the tagline of "SLEEK"... Perfectly summed up.

I can't believe how rare these have become! Thats a shame because it really is cool, love the odd boot design. I'm sure there are more lying around on peoples drive ways and the like because they just seem one of these cars that people hoard and then leave there.

Learned to drive on one of these The lightest most precise manual gearbox I have ever driven The 2.0i felt pretty rapid I think it had around 122hp so still pretty unstressd. It survived a dip in a lake ,ending upside down in a ditch constantly having the guts revved out of it and driven down farm tracks at horrific speeds all well past 170k miles (which was alot to see a car with that many miles in the late 90s and for a late 80s car) I still remember the weight of those doors the seats that never wore old and seat belt that arrived on a arm. Still looked pretty decent until it had a argument with a landcruiser (actually not my fault) I probably got all my silliness out on this car and realised what can go wrong. Now I drive for economy. I thought it was ugly because it looked like a prelude at the front which I like and a Honda civic that had been stretched at the back. It was actually incredibly spacious for its size and very well engineered for the time.

I liked these and would have bought one except all the ones I saw were rotten around the haunches like yours. Instead I went all mid-life crisis an got a Prelude instead. That was a lovely beast with leather, air-con and a sunroof. The 2 litre 16 valve twin-cam injected engine made it a rocket also. The wheel arches I caught just in timeand only had to weld up a couple of inches though the last foot of the sills had to be replaced also. Now I have the Honda's Longbridge made cousin .... a Rover 416 Tourer. Honda 16 single cam engine with 112 bhp, like my old 1.8 Scirocco GTIand a stylish 4 door estate body. It has no rust, I drowned it in waxoyl as soon as I got it at 50,000 miles. Nice to drive and super handy for carrying loads and bicycles. Cheap to fix and uncomplicated ..... most service parts available easilyand cheaply. Only 7 left road legal so rarer than most Ferraris. Only thing not to like is the amount of road tax, despite its carbon footprint having disappeared long ago.

15 /10 22. Got one SORNed, 2 litre Exi 4w ALB Automatic bought new July '88 circa 73000 miles from new but now suffering the dreaded tin worm. Main Dealer servicing back then was a Mickytake - £15 GBP for a pair of windscrean rubbers. Could have bought a new pair 1/2 mile away at Halfords with change left over ! Civic, Prelude, Accord & Legend were the 4 Honda car models offered during the 80s. Quintet & Integra then followed. Gull winged tail gate was / is an Aerodeck unique feature. Independant Citroën dealers could re-gass the struts while you waited providing complementary coffee. Saw a few U S Accord Coupe versions during early 2000s visits. Haynes manuals were available from U S book stores also for those non EFi models. Subsequent generations never had the same appeal for me, of an Aerodeck. Has a User Friendly feel when performing oil & filter, spark plugs changes etc & under-bonnet activity. Once had an MoT carried out by a former MB dealer who recommended to other waiting MB customers at the time to consider Hondas saying their engineering & finish was superior whilst pointing to mine on the inspection lift. Daily drive currently a Suzuki SX4 - has same feeling, for me, as 80's Hondas. Best Regards to all !

I had one of these, a D reg, Flashing lights to let people out never got old with the pop ups! Best heating and power steering ever. Unfortunately mine had a leaky boot, ended up with lots of mould and a nasty smell.

It's like a "Civic eXtra Large". I think they are fab with the pop up headlights! Agree about your point re: velour upholstery. I'd take velour any time over leather. Funky camera work BTW. Found this video via the beige sweary forum!

I had a marpk 1 civic and then a mark 1 prelude i loved them both very reliable and good to work on very clever radio in the prelude.

I really love honda seats of this era. I miss how good this was for long road trips. And yes it's velour. On the modern Civic you are almost forced to pay extra for leather, because the standard cloth remains of the inner lining of a pair of sneakers ... Controls for heating and ventilation where a big joy in this era, nice clicks, easy to operate in the dark. Now it's all touchscreen and it is so difficult to operate you just leave it in auto and hope the computer does what you want. Styling a big plus. Engines... The last small petrols of Honda where a big step up... When you're in that 1.5 turbo vtec civic, in those sneaker linning seats, with touchscreen radio and climate control you don't want to touch... You just think: wouldn't it be great to have this engine in a Honda that still looked like the late 80s Prelude, Integra or Accord Aerodeck?

Great sporty and functional design especially that hatch. If Honda had put decent power and suspension in it, it could've been a real classic.

How many miles? I’d wager any compromise to the ride quality is more to do with original dampers & bushes that are past their best rather than any poor engineering on the part of Honda. We had an 87 EX saloon as a family car & it brings back happy memories. Started my brother and I with a lifetime of loving Hondas- Preludes, DC2 Integra & various Concertos. All great cars in their own way

How do you manage to move the camera without driving? I can not see anyone moving it about and it is playing with my mind!

Do you still use it as a daily driver?

I have the choice to get a 3rd gen Accord with 100k on the clock (carb, 2.0L, 106hp) for 2k Euro or an Aerodeck 2.0EXi (122hp) for 5,5k Euro. Which would you choose for an everyday reliable car?
