Awesome upload. I've been waiting to see this for about 15 years. Was always curious to see how the French ran when they broke the record. All 4 of them, especially Sangouma, were very underrated and under-appreciated sprinters.

Thanks for uploading. Always wondered how they broke the WR, when you consider how great the US team must have been at the time (Lewis, Mitchell, Burrell, Cason, etc). But as has been mentioned, French sprinting had a lot more depth back then (as compared to now, where they have Vicaut and Lemaitre but not much else) and all four were top class 100 or 200m runners.

I wouldn't say they were no names. Bruno Marie-Rose (anchor runner) was the world 200m indoor record holder and a finalist in Seoul. Sangouma (back straight) was 2nd to Christie in the European 100m final and 3rd at the 1989 world cup, Trouabal (3rd leg) was 2nd in the 200m at these championships and a double world champs finalist. Moriniere was the least known of the quartet but still was a 10.1 guy. Sangouma was the most known, but they certainly didnt have the US's firepower.

It really was remarkable. Four complete no names and they broke the WR.

hardly no-names for those of us who are track followers. But not being English speakers I guess they weren't courted by an English speaking press

Bruno Marie-Rose 100m PB 10.18 Max Moriniere 100m PB 10.24 Jean Charles Trouabel 100m PB 10.24 Daniel Sangouma 100m PB 10.17 1984 USA gold medal Carl Lewis gold, Sam Grady bronze, Ron Brown 4th 100m 1992 USA gold medal Carl Lewis former WR holder, Leroy Burrell former WR holder, Mike Marsh 200 meter gold, Dennis Mitchell 100m bronze 1996 Canada gold medal Bruny Surin Olympic 100m 4th place, Donovan Bailey 100m gold medallist WR holder 2000 USA gold medal Jon Drummond 9.92 Bernard Williams 9.94 Brian Lewis 9.96 Maurice Greene 100m gold medalist and WR holder 2008-2016 Jamaica gold medal Usain Bolt 9.58 WR holder, Asafa Powell former WR holder, Yohan Blake 9.75 I could go on and on with gold medals and world records at Olympic games, but basically every year someone won olympic gold or broke a world record, the team had at least two legendary runners on the squad. Nobody outside of France will EVER remember ony of these runners on the WR French team. They had 4 pretty nice runners, but absolutely NO studs. And that is why this world record was so amazing.

@Thomas McKenzie Sam grady 10.19 who not many people would have ever heard of, and the 4th place guy who even I'd never heard of 10.26! So are you trying to disprove your theory or what? Lol

@Thomas McKenzie they also got the silver behind the Americans in the 91 world champs! But this is a European champs, where many of them were medalists in the 100 and 200. People In Europe knew who they were. Marie Rose held the WORLD indoor 200m record for 8years!!!

Christie was garbage in relays. Marie Rose was catchable as was the Soviet guy in Seoul but Christie couldn't hawk either.
