The crappy Ford transmission ruined my Mazda 626 back in the day. It's the same auto they used on the Tempo. Beware!

I mean I don’t think I can complain too much about a budget car from the 90s that still running and driving over 30 years later with 100,000 miles on it sounds like it wasn’t a crappy transmission at all.

I had a 1993 626 v6 and it ate its transmission three times before the car was totaled. The issue wasn't necessarily the transmission, but the fact that they attempted to mate a Ford transmission to a Mazda engine. That hybrid configuration didn't do well, which is one of the reasons that the 626 got such a bad reputation and was eventually replaced with the Mazda 6. I loved the body lines of that generation of 626 and 929, but the vehicles were cursed with poor engineering.

The Tempos and Topaz's were great cars (I'm not even a Ford fan). They were well priced, easy to work on, easy on fuel, and went forever. I had a '94 standard Topaz and loved it. I would drive one today as a cheap car to go back and forth to work if I still had one no problem.

@DaveGreg100 3 жыл бұрын
True. But...no one needs to make "solid $$$ arguments" when rehabbing cars like this. That's not why anyone does it. They do it out of affection. Plus there's nothing wrong with driving an old car that's respectable looking and clean The most satisfying money I have spent was on my '86 Olds Calais MAACO paint job. Hagerty doesn't even give a figure for it's "value". That one thing made me happier than "owning" a new car with 72 months worth of payments. Over the last 40 years I have spent an inordinate amount of money on my '63 Valiant Signet, which, when I bought it, was probably a year away from the junk yard. And I still put money into it knowing I'll never get it back. That's just booze, weed, drug, golf, fine dining, designer clothing, lottery ticket, nudie bar money put to a better use.

A brief look into the future. April 2051. Kevin from Junkyard Digs purchases both an old Ram truck and Jeep Wrangler sitting for years in a salvage yard only to discover they once were Randy's vehicles back in 2021. He contacts Randy to let him know and Randy flies to Iowa to see the old girls. To his amazement, he watches Kevin pull up in the 90 Tempo which he used to own and has just turned 60 years old. He tells Randy it has been his reliable daily driver for years and has owned it since 2021. He noted paint is fine and will replace the shocks and struts for the first time. :)

I worked in retail (sales and service) for many years. Somewhere along the road, some consumers learned this bad behavior of "throwing a fit to get what you want even if you didn't pay for it, or deserve it". They don't want to hear your explanation of why they can't have what they want (for free). They will throw a hissy fit, threaten to call the BBB, even make threats of bodily injury to get their way... mostly because it has worked for them (or people they know) in the past. A lot of good people will cave in to their demands, which only strengthens their resolve to continue to b*tch until they get what they want. The hardest thing to do (which makes it the right thing to do) is to stick to your guns, always take the high road and stay polite, and do NOT give them what they want for free! And by the way... the Tempo looks 1000% better!

Wow Randy I didn't think I was going to see the day when you took the Tempo to Maaco for a paint job. In my opinion this is one of the sexiest Grandma cars out there
