As a Mets fan, this 1990 Reds team is vastly underrated. They held onto first place in the West from Opening day till Closing day. They had a mix of good power, speed and that bullpen was scary and won a lot of games for them. Plus Pinella was IMO a great manager.

Man I was surprised by the Reds sweeping the A's. Everything that season was about how great and loaded the A's were but the Reds just shredded them.

Being a native Cincinnatian, this 1990 WS title gave me more pride than in 1975 & 1976, with the "Big Red Machine", they were expected to win it all, this 1990 team came outta' no where to pull it off...

It's a Saturday night, baseball season is over but thank God for youtube and MLB posting their games, I can watch all the baseball games I want until next season. Even though I'm a Dodgers fan, I'm a fan of the Cincinnati Reds world series teams, they were such great teams, well balanced and the big red machine greatest baseball teams ever.

My man Eric The Red was never the same after lacerating his kidney in this game. I remember crying when he had to come out of the game. Did you know Marge Schott was so tight that Davis had to pay for his own plane ticket back home? He was still in the hospital when the team went home to Cincinnati. But that was #44. He went ALL OUT ALL THE TIME! While no one thought the Redlegs could beat Stewart even once, they beat him twice and ED's first inning bomb in game 1 set the tone. You were the best kid!

This team was a tribute to the Big Red Machine. For me, it was watching the 1975-1976 team all over again. Well, almost.

First World Series I remember watching. All I know was that no one gave the Reds a chance to win it. Great baseball memory this.

This was a heck of a game, worthy of a World Series. Great pitching on both sides, great defense and even drama with the injuries to Hatcher and Davis; not to mention the way Braggs broke his bat. Man!

The Redlegs went wire to wire that year never fell out of first place. Sweet Lou played against them in 1976 and lost to them then led them to that 1990 World series win!!!! And the nasty boys!!!! What a team!!!

fun fact,,,,, riverfront stadium,,,,, in operation from 1970(the all star game was the 1st game played) through 2002. the reds used only 2 shortstops for the entire time 32 years. concepcion and larkin.

I was there!! First time to Cali, as my Dad and I won tickets. Who knew the guy playing right field would be a Yankee, and one of my favorite players for years, in Paul O'Neill. :D

Rijo vs. Dave Henderson in the 9th was a thing of beauty. 3 straight sliders; two for strikes and one just outside the zone. Then with the count 1 and 2 throws that fastball that Henderson was sure would curve outside. Strike 3. Classic baseball.

As a new-ish, non-american, appreciator of this sport (who never really understood it until I started "educating myself" by playing MLB the Show '17), I'm kinda leaning towards the Reds as my favorite team. Just something about the look of their uniforms and logo, I dunno...

I love to watch those old baseball's games,it remember me when baseball was fun ,players play for play not for money,and any teams was good to watch a lot superstar players,

Awesome! I remember it like it was yesterday.

As of this game, the Reds have a 9-game World Series winning streak, best in baseball at the moment...haha! This is the one and only World Series game I have ever had the pleasure to attend. Glad to see it posted here in its entirety, my VHS tape of it has probably disintegrated by now. The Reds' sweep was just noteworthy enough that MLB Network ought to give it some 25th anniversary love with a proper documentary in 2015.

Lou looks alert and attentive in this series, unlike his stint in Chicago when he was sleepy and confused the entire time.

As a ten-year-old Reds fan at the time, this was awesome to see! I remember having a poster of the Nasty Boys hanging up on my wall. Still got my Wheaties box.

I was only 8 at the time, and didn’t really get into sports and the Reds until ‘92 when I was 10. I SO wish I had been able to see this all happen! I haven’t seen them get to a WS, or really even come that close. ‘95 swept in CS, and haven’t won a playoff series since then. 😕

Exactly, when you beat a team 4-0, including the last two games on the road, how is that a fluke? a fluke would be winning it in 6 or 7 games because of crazy bounces.

The last time these two teams were in a World Series...it's now 2020.

That's funny, I've been an A's fan since I was about five and this is one of the worst memories of my college years (of course not as bad as game one 1988).

It's amusing seeing this because according to John Mongani down there in the post the "better team" gets outscored 22-8 and swept in the World Series. And his proof is that the Reds "disappeared never to be seen again" and Oakland, ummm, well, that's their last World Series appearance as well. But I guess we'll forget that. :)

Amen. I grew up in a Northern KY suburb of Cincinnati and even there you found tons of people who claimed they had been huge As fans for years, even though you knew they were bandwagoners. When it comes to people hopping on the bandwagon, the A's are the baseball equivalent of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Every last player on Cincinnati's roster contributed in some critical way during their 1990 post-season run. Ron Oester, Herm Winningham, Billy Bates, Glenn Braggs, Scott Scudder, Jack Armstrong....everybody stepped up at least once to help win a game.

& Rickey Henderson won AL MVP that year, a year after being traded from the Yankees. Former Yankee Willie Randolph started at 2B. But they were both beaten in the World Series by former Yankee Jose Rijo (the man for whom the Yankees obtained Henderson in 1984).

That was pretty much the end of that 3 year mini dynasty for Oakland and the Steroid Brothers. Instead of winning 3 in a row like the '72-'74 A's, they only managed one title. As for the Reds, 27 years of futility and only 7 winning seasons since 1990.

It seems like this Reds team despite winning it all, had a lot of dark clouds looming over them. You had Marge Schott as the miserable owner who everyone hated, still the owner for the rest of the 90s. You had Pete Rose the previous year's Reds manager and of course icon as a Reds player having just been banned from baseball for life and would never get into the hall of fame. You had Billy Hatcher and Eric Davis badly injured in game 4 and having to go to the hospital. Davis career would never be the same after the kidney injury.

Did you know that the Reds has 2 sets of siblings playing for them at the same time .

Funnily enough, this game was played the same night Steinbrenner hosted "Saturday Night Live".
