Why'd they ever leave st. Louis? They were way better than they should have been. I have almost all of mine including my original g10xl. If I drop c, and put the sweedish chainsaw its brutal af for a little chunker.

The peavey of the era was more suited for country and southern rock. Akynyrd used peavey amd studio and stage. Rlcrate stayed with the times. Great blues amps. Amd. Great metal and rock amps. Yes they made some Junk. But not their USA made gear. The vintage club 60 watt amps, vc2112, vc2210 killer amps.

My first amp with distortion was a Crate GX-15. However, it wasn't until I got a DOD Thrash Master that i could finally play One without having to stop and switch channels on the amp, lol. Great memories.

I have been a Crate amp user for so long. . So happy to get to the 90's where I could enjoy that sound. I love the stereo chorus and the clean channel is sparkly. That is my sound, Crate 130c with a four 12 cabinet. I went through the Marshall stack phase, and keyboard players would quit the band left and right. I have a gt200 I would sell.

I've always been a sucker for Crate amps. I currently own a GFX-30. It has a great clean sound, and once you understand how to adjust and use the overdrive, you can really get a good distortion. a lot of people trash Crate overall and I think that's a shame, cause they will go all balls to the wall with the settings and then bitch that it sounds crappy. Instead of taking the time to fine tune the settings. I think mine is a '98 model but it works great still. Too bad that they went out of business.

Really nice vid! I have the gt50 head and the combo. The best for everything, period. I use the head in a death metal band now, even the built-in distortion would be enough but I use it with a pedal. It kills all modern amps when it comes to high gain. It is simply relentless. I need a 100 watt too! The combo has that same kind of aggro, also with a very clean, Fender-ish type sound. The Stealth series unbelievably stellar, it is ridiculous. A hidden gem.
@teknokill639
@teknokill639 4 жыл бұрын
This amp is a hidden gem! I actually wrote hidden gem before I read your last word :) Not so thrilled about the reverb. I had the solid state one which sounded AMAZING as well and had a much more shimmering reverb more of that fender-is sound you just mentioned. Was sad to let it go.

Still such a highly underrated and harshly criticized amp company, *but they really did shoot themselves in both feet when they produced model lines that had a shape control on the overdrive channels but no midrange.* The worst part is, you can add the midrange by changing a 100 ohm resistor that costs literally less than 1 cent with a 40 cent 500 ohm potentiometer, and that turns those models into the ultimate metal amp! *That, or the low-tech way is to pu an EQ on the effects loop.* One of the best thrash, death, industrial and numetal amps of all time.

Gt80dsp was my first real amp that wasn't 10 watts back in 2005. I loved for a decade and starting having issues and sold it to guitar center. I just have gone through a dozen amps in a few years and just couldn't get that sound again. So I bought another one from GC. This time I am keeping it. And he say that it won amp of the year in 1993?

My first amp was a GT-200dsp, it retailed for $1000 and was amazing to me at 12 years old. I even had the 4x12 cab. Eventually, I came to understand just how terrible the tone was after hearing several other rigs, processors, etc.

I feel like the 4x12 cabs were terrible. The head units are actually the best of its kind and stupidy rare to find. Just plug it to a high end cab, and it sounds phenomenal. I have one myself and it competes with my boogies/marshalls. The true jcm 800 killer

The promo is so bad it's hilarious. I laughed pretty good at the first min or so. I was sad to learn a few years ago that Crate was dead. In my opinion Crate solid-state amps had the best solid-state sound available, ever, even by modern standards. Have yet to hear another solid state come close. And also in my unpopular opinion, Crate solid-states sound better than most of 'God Tone' valve/tube amps then and now. They did have some flaws. I don't know which heads and combos were designed for actual touring (maybe none, maybe the Red Voodoo?) but all of them I have ever owned from new to used had weird glitches like loud popping when switching channels or crappy pots made of plastic that would fall apart or being able to fully control channel 3 with channel 2's controls because there's a crossover issue. But if I had the money I would take my favorite Crate heads and have them copied with the same parts but of better quality and less internal PC cables, zip-tied, better jacks, pots etc. I would definitely do it.
@DunderHead.5000
@DunderHead.5000 3 жыл бұрын
Some other weird things I remember are the volume dipping by maybe just a couple of DB's (just enough to notice it), or the dirt on the distortion channel lowering it just enough that I could notice it.

@@benmiddleton9984 Well, they were bought out, along with Ampeg, and the product line discontinued. They were in business for more than 40 years, and had a ton of artists using their stuff in the 80s. I recall them being affordable and sounding good. I had a GX-130C that was every bit as good as a Fender Ultimate Chrous or Princeton Chorus. Good stuff for a 13 year old kid.
