The outstanding Penske PC23 chassis was by far the most dominant race car over a single season during the 1990s.

Classic Bobby Unser at 1:26:45 talking about the colossal straightaway speeds for the Penske Mercedes. "And I'm not drunk!" hahahaha

1996 Arie Luyendyk set the official one-lap track record (237.498 mph) and the four-lap track record (236.986 mph), while Eddie Cheever ran the fastest race lap (236.103 mph) in Indy 500 history - records that all still stand as of 2023. Luyendyk also ran the fastest practice lap in Indy history (239.260 mph) just a fraction of a second shy of breaking the 240 mph barrier. IRL next year, pole was 218 MPH

The west coast of California is unique with its weather, as seen here, where it is overcast, but no threat of rain. The cold Pacific Ocean water creates an overcast condition of a fog layer that is elevated a thousand feet or so above ground level. That weather condition is most notable in the San Francisco region in the summer season.

He should have gone to F1. He had the raw pace, especially at this point in his career

@@RobJaskula Only if he was being offered a competitive car. The contract that Briatore was offering him basically gave Flav the power to move him wherever he wanted, could have been as Schumacher's teammate at Benetton, but also could have been at Ligier, Minardi, or only as a test driver

Final race for Davy Jones at AJ Foyt Racing. Bobby Unser knew its not going to be a fit. Marco Greco found ways to be a pest on track. Good back story of Paul Tracy on how was close to quit racing before Roger Penske gave him the lifeline. He still ends up being wild and rough throughout his entire career

IRL, we are doing 220 MPH, CART, Gil de Ferran sets the closed course speed record (241.428 mph) at Fontana in 2000

These cars are being shifted with a sequential shift lever, with right hand. Imagine THAT. Hand has to come off wheel. F1 and later Indy Cars, pushing a button!

Why de Fabi’s superspeedway car as the thumbnail? I shouldn’t complain though, since most of the thumbnails in the past have been spoilers and this one is not.

30 years ago the cars sounded better, had more variety across the grid, and the cars looked faster. Those cars with modern tires would run circles around PenskeCar right now. Nigel Mansell was in the series. Now we have a 33 year old chasis and RoGro. @RogerPenske this is why you have so few fans now. The cars and the tech are irrelevant.

Based on the green flag to start the race I guess the race took place on Roger Penske's birthday.😂 Pathetic
