Required viewing for all South Africans. Freedom was never free. Our past is painful, but we can't afford to dwell on it. We need to focus on what takes us to the best collective future.

An amazing, well balanced, objective, insightful documentary. Well done eNCA. the memory of those days had dimmed I was too young to realise back then. the extraordinary bravery of certain individuals to make the right choice and be selfless has led to the reasonably successful and stable new SA. We love to remember the 95 world cup, there would not have been that, nor many of the luxuries we Saffas enjoy without the bravery and sacrifice of those people from all across the political and racial spectrum. Amandla Mnzansi Afrika!

This disturbs me guys. I was there physically. You see that Principal there? She was my teacher at that time. Those young boys shot dead were friends and one of them was my cousin. We ended up with no choice but to retaliate. The house where shooting took place, is 500m away from my home. We were so lucky not to go there as our grandmother shouted at us to come back.

Born in 83, I was fortunate that my consciousness was activated early (4 to 5 yrs), and remember most things that happened from there onwards as if it was yesterday. The deaths (tyres around people's necks), the daily marches (we were put in the front as kids to try and deter the military from shooting), the raids/beatings/sleeping in the bushes/military trainings etc. The excitement of Mandela release, death of Hani, the elections etc...Now we're being molested by the ones that were assigned a role of safeguarding our democracy, such a pity.

What a great body of work! This was an important reminder of the history of South Africa and how unity played a big role in shaping the country. We should never forget our history and the people who laid their lives for this country. Any form of racism or ideologies that promote division in communities must be dealt with decisively. The country has risen from a dark place and we should protect this democracy by all means necessary. This should be aired every year, one of the best doccies I've watched.

Xenophobic attacks on foreigners anywhere in the world is unjustifiable Libyans, Ghanaians and Nigerian governments provided millions of $ for ANC in their struggle against Apartheid Cubans, Russians ,Chinese and Nigerian governments provided weapons and trained skilled black south Africans people like Doctors, Engineers and military advisers Thabo Mbeki once took refuge and lived in Nigeria for many years under Apartheid. Without foreigners, Black south Africans alone cannot overcome entrenched racist White South Africans If foreigners disobey the laws of any country, arrest and prosecute and possibly deport the criminal. Every foreigner in any country cannot be a criminal There are South Africans living as foreigners in other countries Schools need to teach this.

The sheer evil of some of these people is appalling. The way they casually discuss murder and discrimination without a modicum of remorse is truly disturbing. It's really depressing to learn about all the suffering black South Africans went through to get basic human rights. I'm glad that in the end Apartheid was dismantled, but it's clear that there is still a ways to go in bringing about equality. Racism is an evil that needs to be vanquished if we hope to survive.

Same can be said about the peoples war. Armed terrorism aimed at civilians and soft targets whether UDM, ANC or inkhatha all are guilty of raising a generation of hammers that think every problem can be solved with a hammer which is not true... SA came from a repressive regime to even worse regime who has destroyed a country that surpassed even the US economy in the 70's. 30 years of ANC rule and what have they done for anyone they "Liberated" ? Only people who got lifted out of poverty was the Cadres who to this day just line their pockets and keep all black nations in perpetual debt to the master ANC eithout whom you cant even have a proper toilet to use. Im not defending apartheid but good lord how can you all be so naive to keep people in power who oppress you more than NP government could have wished for. Before sone keyboard warrior replies to my comment have your facts together. Im willing to disprove anyone who has the balls to tell me what benefit they received from fucking criminals in the 30 years of rule..
