We are going to send ours to place that repairs these in Joplin, Missouri. Your video confirmed the ongoing issue is probably this. We've replaced everything else, and then after the expense, find out that this may have been the issue all along.

I was having a very similar problem with my truck for about six months and was getting nowhere while trying to fix it. Finally found a faulty connection on the PSOM and got it repaired. You can get a used speedo at the wrecking yard and plug it in and the mileage will be the same as the old one. I did this when I had a problem. I called a shop and they told me that the mileage is stored in the computer on board. I do like your videos

Keep the microfarad rating the same, it’s OK to go up on volts but not down and you can also order higher temperature ones if you want.

Neat vid. Came across when researching why my '94 f150 speedometer/odometer wasn't working. Ended up being the #5 "odometer memory" fuse. Glad it wasn't the PSOM like here. Although I probably would've attempted this had it been the problem.

Wow, great diagnosis and work. I'm thinking if that were taken to a shop they would have you in for a few thousand dollars for an unnecessary transmission rebuild and that still wouldn't have fixed the issue.

Thanks for the video. I had a bad joint on the capacitor you replaced (it looked corroded and green) so I removed it and re-soldered the cap back in place. This fixed a frustrating hard shifting problem that I have had for a couple of years. In a previous attempt to fix this problem I also replaced the clock spring, and three capacitors on the PCM that looked suspect. My problem acted up when it was hot outside, if I let the truck automatically warm up until the choke went off, after using the cruise control, and sometimes randomly. Seems to run puuuuurfect now.

WOW, Thank you for the lesson, very, very Informative, i am having Overdrive Problems, where it is engaging either way to early, some times at 30 and other times it is at 40, also i know that my ECM was Bad, i repaired it sometime back, though i still have the Trans Shift Problem, the Transmission don't have 2000 Miles on it and i do believe this PSOM is bad, so i will certainly pull that Instrument Cluster and make any necessary repairs. Man oh man this is a great video even though I don't know a single thing about all those electronics. I mean nothing. I am having the exact same problem with a 94 F250 IDI diesel truck. My speedo after about 50 MPH goes completely nuts Also shortly after my truck would go into that same limp mode as yours. I checked the V-speed sensor but only for continuity. I don't remember what the reading was but assumed it worked. Now I don't know where to go next. That module behind the speedo is a complete mystery to me however the 1994 idi turbo-diesel does not have the same in 1994 does not have the computer hookups the 1995 truck would have. It is my understanding that the computer box in the truck only governs the transmission. I'm wondering if that could be where my problem is. I may have to ...but am afraid to send it to a trany shop and get a humongous bill only to find out it's a problem like yours. Does ford still even sell that circuit board? Seems ford doesn't want to even talk to you if your car is over 10 years old. God I admire people who know about all those diodes and compasitors. I watched your video and was amazed. I have been told it could well be an electrical problem though. I'm in Jacksonville Florida and wish I knew someone I could trust not to rip me off. You are a genius to figure all that out.

I have a similar issue with my 1996 Ford F350 XLT I will save your video and use it as a guide. I bought the truck a while back. my speedometer is bouncing, and I have an Overdrive off light that will bounce, mine has failed to shift. Was intermittent.

You are very knowledgable. I have an e 150 van 1996. I had to floor it to get from 1st to 2nd, then rev it and let up to get into 3rd and 4th etc., overdrive light flashing, and speedo goes up wildly til it sticks a 35. I put in the new vss, and the shifting from 1-2 is much better. But the speedo still doesn't work right, and overdrive light blinks. Am thinking it's somewhere in the psom. Any ideas? thanks

Do you have a diagram? The top left pin fried and melted the back. I just had transmission work done/new torque converter. back and forth shifting. The shop said it was not there fault.

Did anyone ever find out what size varistor it is? I measured it and got 14mm diameter of the disk but having trouble with the voltage, max voltage, etc, etc. Can someone give the correct model number of the replacement varistor needed? Mine is burnt and unreadable. Thanks

In your case did the ODBII speed show on your scan tool? In my case the manual trip & odometer are increasing, gauge is reading 0 MPH.

Do you think it's possible to switch the psom mode from english to overseas (imperial to metric)? Mine is a Canadian truck with a metric speedometer but the psom mode is somehow Imperial. The speedometer reads way too high, and for some wierd reason the odometer reads way too low. They are clearly in the ratio range of imperial vs metric.....but going in opposite directions. Very wierd. I've heard some people mention about their speedometer switching from english to metric....for no good reason, and not knowing how to restore the original setting, if it's possible at all. Just wanting to investigate before I go through the difficult process of trying to track down a new metric speedometer odometer module.

Not sure why you'd use a different capacitor value. 100uF is a lot different than 220uF. 35V is only an indication of the max voltage that capacitor is rated for.

This video is kinda old but wondering if you might have an idea on a tach that blows the fuse. I changed out the cluster awhile ago and never had any problems. The new cluster had an airbag light but I don't have an airbag. The number 17 fuse popped and I switched it out but it immediately blew again and the air bag light is on. The only other thing I did recently was replace the turn signal multi switch because the left rear blinker wouldn't work and after replacing it the signal worked fine. Any idea where to start looking and testing. Thanks
