I couldn't imagine as a vocalist how hard it would be to tour this album. Hagar recorded some of the most difficult to sing performances of his career on this album. Nothing but respect to Hagar.

I agree..he also stated that himself..there is some really tough parts over the whole album.. This one..and big fat money and aftershock.. Great tunes..great album. Sammy is one of my all time faves.

Considering it was the weakest of the Van Hagar albums says how strong all those albums were. All slightly diverse too. Thats what made Van Hagar great. It wasn't the same sound with every album as it was with Roth, which is what Ed wanted. I love that they always pushed their sound to different areas, while never getting away from who they are.

@@cheapseats12 But Balance was a rehash of older music. Seventh Seal, similar to Poundcake. Amsterdam to Cabo Wabo. Aftershock, rehash of Dream is over. Can't stop loving you = any hard rock ballad. Not Enough = a lesser Right Now.

@@ColtraneTaylor buddy that is true of every artist. Bob Dylan said u only write 5 original songs and everything else u r just copying yourself. That's true for everyone. Balance as a whole was so underrated. Both the album and the tour. To this day, I still can't comprehend how so many fans and critics panned that album. Absolutely some of the best Eddie has ever played and sounded. His tone was so biting and in your face. Songs like Seventh Seal, Aftershock, Feelin', Amsterdam, Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do) are some of the hardest, darkest and most musical songs Ed's ever written. It was like his answer to grunge. He even said at the time he was writing to sound like Nirvana and Alice in Chains. But its VH, so its so much more powerful and blew the doors off all the other rock music out at the time in my opinion.

I'm one of the very few who absolutely love the guitar tone on this album. Edit: Ok, apparently I was wrong in saying I was “one of the few.” I was basing my original statement on the comments of my fellow, physical community. They instead said “Dave Rules Sammy Drools,” and failed to capture the brilliant tone and riffs of the later years. Thank you for proving there are others out there that have the same opinion as I.
@1970borntorun4 жыл бұрын
Well, you're right. And as a Guitar Player myself, I can trace it back to when Eddie started in with the Basswood-backed guitars that lack low-end Bass and resonance, as compared to say Alder, Ash and Mahogany. I'll patiently await all the idiots who reply that Wood has no bearing on Tone, or that just because EDDIE played with Basswood, I shouldn't think for myself and draw my own conclusion LOL

It's sad that Van Halen pissed away over 20 years of what could have been superb albums. Sammy's voice was killer on Balance. They've gone down the shitter since he left. Pretty sad tale of a once great band, one of the best which I was privileged to see live in '93 and '95. Sammy has always been the bigger man and tried to reach out the olive branch to Edward and just gets it thrown back in his face. At least he's getting on with his life and enjoying it. Good for him.

Definitely at least 2 more really good albums with Sam, if not 3. Sam had some really killer tunes on his initial solo albums that combined with Ed's creativeness would have made killer albums. Maybe I’m reaching here, but this is Van Hagar’s “Fair Warning” album. So dark yet powerful, and EVH’s playing was on top yet again. There was a comment on another video where they say the way albums were made during the entire VH run were heavily influenced by the mood EVH was in at that time. Fair Warning was a good example as Ed was tiring of DLR’s antics and Ted Templeman’s involvement and it showed in the dark overtones and angry feel on that record. Same for Balance, as Ed is dealing with increased tension with Sam and it shows in the album. Anyone notice how many instrumentals were on the track list? Sam refuse to sing (or didn’t bother to show at the studio)?
@daveeverhart58343 жыл бұрын
"Maybe I’m reaching here, but this is Van Hagar’s “Fair Warning” album. " I had not ever, ever thought about it in that context. I think you're right. Damn, man. 'Fair Warning' was very 'street' based; 'Balance' was 'older, wiser, life experience' based.
