I get what you're saying and I've taken some flack for that comment. My point was the average Camry or Malibu driver isn't going to "notice" you like they would in a Corvette or Viper. The car is a headturner for people in the know and also people that take notice. Trust me, I get a lot of looks, just depends on who is looking. What year do you have?

Mack Jay I'm south and guys just give me props for a nice ride. Most ain't haters and understand the struggle, grind, and work that went in to obtaining the car...which I bought for 7k. If some punk haters wanna take my 7k car that's worth maybe 5 with an insurance claim then fine it ain't worth shooting over. One call out and POs on patrol are on the lookout. Easy to spot one. They wanna chop this car up you gonna spend a long time selling the parts off a 20 year old car. Maybe get a few hundred for the wheels...again not worth makin a scene over. You got guys on donks with 8g wheels and candy paint...they ain't getting messed with either for the most part. I can tell you being an OG myself that times have changed a lot. Yeah guys will still ride up on someone but nothing like before and there is more appreciation than hate.

+LoCcdOutSS Don't get me wrong, to the correct person I feel like it does turn heads. It's just not like rolling by in an M5 or CTS-V - to the average person who isn't a car person, they just see an old car that's been slightly modified. I'm also the kind of person though that doesn't care; if my car doesn't turn heads or "blends in", but makes me happy, all the better. I'm not a flashy kind of car driver. Send us some pics of your car - maybe we could get them featured on hoagiesgarage.com - Thanks! JT hoagiesgarage@gmail.com

you should check out classic industries. they have an impalla full size 1958-1996 impalla catalog as well as camaro and other models. if i cannot absolutely find a part for my 96 camaro in a junk yard or ebay i will go to them. problem is they are pricey, the good news is that there is some aftermarket support for your car. these were awesome cars and you just cannot find an equal in a more "modern car" i would hang on to it.

Great Video and commentary. I agree with your review of the car. I have had my '96 from new and now have 39,000 Florida miles on it. It's in as new condition, the only mods I have made are K&N, cat back, Hypertech Pro, 165F thermostat and shift kit. My wife hates the shift kit because it's "too jerky", which is why I do like it. The problem is that I also have a Jaguar F type V8S which is a beast, and when I step back into my SS, I always feel that I'd like just a bit more power. I have been thinking about the 383 stroker motor too, so your videos will be very helpful. So do you think that you'll have to change out the 4L60E? It seems that a shift kit would help because it is heat, among other things, that transmissions hate. The shift kit allows varying amounts of slippage when shifting gears, so should help to mitigate the higher 383 hp output? Good luck with your project!
@RubberCityMotoring
@RubberCityMotoring 7 жыл бұрын
Well as far as transmission, I have an upgraded unit from GearStar in Akron here. They redo everything internally, change shift points, etc. The torque converter does a little bit more as far as lockup and things, but overall its a nice upgrade that isn't undrivable or uncomfortable. You can run a deeper pan, which holds more fluid and helps with the heat. You also can upgrade your cooler, which is smart. Mine is the oem Impala setup with the external cooler, and that worked great for years. Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks for watching!

Excellent review. I have had my 1996 from new with 40,000 miles and still love to occasionally drive it. I agree with your comments on the car. Just a suggestion about the lack of radio aux inputs. I use a VicTsing V4.1 BT FM transmitter. Plugs neatly into the cigarette lighter and allows streaming BT through the radio. Your radio replacement is a great way to go, but the transmitter is a low cost ($15) alternative. I too am perfectly happy with the existing LT1 with K&N, cat back, Transgo shift kit. I also have installed Hypertech Pro tune, which seems to help quite a bit. I am also intrigued by the 383 swap but it's a lot of work. Any comments on a power adder to the current LT1? Supercharger for example? Thanks.

Hi, I followed your restoration project as you went along back in 2015. Since then, how is the car running? Have you done any other mods? I have been slowly building a 9c1 for some time now and we have emailed in the past. I put too big of a cam in my 383 stroker and cant get a good tune in the car. Recently I have decided to buy the Holley HP EFI ECU. It will replace the opti as well as give so many more tuning options. I just wanted to see what you have been doing with yours. I am also looking for an SS that I can use for a daily driver. I just need the right one. You know how that is. Take care and good luck with your hobbies. Regards, Ody

Well right now, I'm in the process of securing an opti-eliminator setup and going coil pack. From there, I plan to tune. Overall, I think I have a minor issue that needs to be worked out on the dyno. So once that is all installed, a new tune will be done. Thanks for watching! More mods to come are mostly cosmetic, as suspension/trans/etc are all sorted.

+andrew donohue i also have been doing some work to my camaro lately. new engine mounts, new ignition wires, new bushings all around. i did a ton of work last year with new opti-spark, coil, icm, fuel pump, intake gasket. i also drove it 15k miles trouble free. these are old cars but when setup right they run well. the LT1 is an under-rated engine and loves to rev even with the 215K that are on my car. i suspect that engine will go at least another 100K

why are you selling the camaro? what a fun car with a backseat that is large enough for a car seat. my son rides in my camaro all of the time. that is the first year of the LS1 indeed. good news with that no opti-spark. i bought an LT1 powered car because those are pretty much being given away, i bought my car for $3,000. $3,000 is dirt cheap for any used car given todays prices. when you consider that the car makes 285 hp and 335 tq its a steal. the bad about the LT1 is that the aftermarket is more limited, but it does exist with guys like lyod elliot
