I'm a retired trucker, the last big truck I drove was a 379.

30 years ago, you would see these running all over California pulling doubles, either bottom dumps with dirt or aggregate, or ag flatbeds with bins.

Yep I drove for Harrod trucking and hauled rock and sand for Vulcan interbranch to their batch plants . Up and down the coast to Santa Barbara and Goleta .

Porter greetings! 🇺🇸 This is one sweet little single axle! 🤩 Looks pretty clean except for the orange shining through. Just what I could handle! This would look really good in my driveway…what can I do to make it happen?

What good is a single axle?
@Briebabcock80522 жыл бұрын
A lot actually. They're good for turning tighter. Alot of folks use single axles for pulling campers and such. Even some hot shot truckers use them for only up to 72,000lbs varying on trailer.
@roundmoundofsound8352 жыл бұрын
@@Briebabcock8052 turning tighter doesn't bring in the revenue. You are limited by weight capability on top of everything. Would love to see you haul a steel coil like I do.

@@roundmoundofsound835 Every truck has it's aspects. Your truck is either a tandem or triaxle to haul big coils. The majority of single rear axles are used in large cities with lots of deliveries. Sure the gcwr may not be 80,000lbs +, but depending on owner specs and the truck the gcwr has a range between 60,000 - 72,000lbs. That alone still has plenty of options to make plenty of revenue. Heck, there are plenty of light weight loads that pay more (varying shipper) or the same as some heavy loads but that light load didn't use much fuel than a heavy load paying the same. And depending on the owner and/or operator singles can make tons of revenue and spend less on tires and other wear and tear components that comes with have tandem axles. So again, it depends on what a person or company needs are and what they're hauling.
