@@ordinarygamer1353 i had zero experience driving a manual and i got in and drove it lol. Ive only driven it 4000 miles and all the problems ive had are from it sitting for 10 years

Thanks sir... only thing keeping me from the down pipe and exhaust is all the clearance I need on the firewall. I don’t want to remove the heat shield and I don’t want to bend the body seam.... I almost did it when I had the transmission out for the clutch, but I wussed out. I wish someone would make a better downpipe with no modifications

@@pilgrim666butters i've read that a few folks had luck. I also thought about using a small hydro jack to bend against the trans to create more clearance.

Yes sir, it’s all for sale. Jeep was a fun project, but made more sense to sell. Now I’ve got a truck and more $$ for whatever is next.

This truck lived it’s life in PA, but was regularly treated with Krown rust proofing…. What a huge difference

Don’t let the internet tell you otherwise.... this 7.3, the first 5.9 and just about any diesel built before 2000 is a poor choice very extremely cold temps. Just my opinion, very cold climates would be better for a newer Cummins or Duramax with more intricate engine computers.

There’s probably a few Cummins owners who might disagree. :)

Truck has 4.10 gears

I’ve owned both. The SD was a nicer truck all-around compared to the OBS. Also the SD are cheaper, just budget for typical maintenance and find the least rusty truck you can find in your budget, rust is more important than miles.

Hi, the L is just the same thing as 1st gear basically. Long story short, the manual transmissions in HD diesel trucks is geared to pull heavy junk, so when the truck is empty you typically start in the 2nd gear.

For anyone wondering the same thing, The 5 speed + low was for the new 99-04ish-whatever bodystyle. It was just called the 6 speed.

I put a single mass on there and it was the best decision I made. More quiet, more smooth, better feel. The job wasn’t bad, but the dual mass weighed a ton

What clutch did you choose

@@Turbotalkin it was a LUK kit with the single-piece flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, crank bolts, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, everything included. One item of note: the throwout bearing was larger than the quill on the transmission. LUK told me that is perfectly normal to have more than expected clearance. I also asked a good friend of mine who's a master diesel tech and he said that's common. The throwout bearing is actually floating on the quill and the springs do the center-ing. Anyways, the new clutch is smooth as silk and no problems!

Brett Beilke I’ve never had the opportunity to really load it down so I can’t tell... but I will say the clutch travel is better, the engagement is more solid, and it is much easier to drive.

Sold it to a great guy in California who’s providing Gary (the truck) a retirement in a much nicer climate.

No need to double clutch a ZF5, just match revs and the gears slip right in.

@@BobWilson84 that was a movie quote. However I have the same truck and find that double clutching helps. But how do you match the revs exactly? Still figuring that part out.
