After winning the 1997 PBA Florida Open, Pete Weber met Dale Eagle, the winner of a senior event held during the tournament, for $25,000, winner take all. Eagle was talking to his good buddy Bo Burton on the wireless mike throughout the match and both he and Pete were demonstrative as usual. Great match for big bucks. Part 1 of 2.

The match in question was in Grand Rapids, I have heard the stories of PA and Ernie walking shots out 10-15 lanes just to screw with the other guys head.

Sounds about right. He's quite legendary on the NYC action bowling scene - pulling wins out of God-knows-where. I remember he made match play right after the "new PBA" rolled out in '01-02, and he went against Patrick Allen in the round of 32. It turned out to be one of the most talked-about match play segments in a while. With that pair of shy, demure New Yorkers, there was just a wee bit of trash talking on that pair, I'd bet. lol

Depends what you like. I think Dale Eagle's intent is to be an entertainer, not run a psych job. If you watch him after matches, he's a great sportsman (there's one from 1999 against Mike Durbin that really stands out.) Ernie Schlegel's out to win, and his antics aren't for fun and games - he's genuinely trying to mess with the other guy's head. Considering he comes from a tradition of action bowling in New York City in the 1960s, it's not too surprising he's developed a few tricks.

I agree completely on the differences in Schlegel and "Eagle". Ernie was definitely treating the TV shows like a pot game, which as a bowler, I can't help but like to a degree. To me, as long as you aren't distracting a bowler once they are set on the approach, it's ok to use a little gamesmanship btwn shots. The breathe-right strip on the nose though? 😂 I cannot endorse that. Eagle didn't seem like an entertainer to me, seemed more like he craved attention. In part 2 when he gets on the ball return to do the "Eagle" lol its a bit cringe. And I thought his "sportsmanship" in his match with Durbin was a bit questionable. He kind of made up for it at the end by telling the audience to give Mike a hand...but it still seemed like a "hey look at me, Dale "Eagle", what a great sport I am!" moment. You can tell a bit from the reactions of Durbin and Pete. Durbin played it well for TV, but Pete looked genuinely annoyed at him.
