That is great information. Clear and concise, straight and simple so that anyone can change out their Mercedes 3.5 V6 belt. Thank you for posting this.

Thank you so much for sharing this in a fantastic detailed manner. In my 2004 C230 Kompressor, the nut had been replaced with a Torx hole, making it easier to gripe from the top without removing anything except the fresh air intake hose. I tried at first to turn a wrench from below, got a lot of cut and scratches in both forearms…but without success - there just wasn’t enough space to fully turn and release the tensioner. But it was surprisingly easy to do so from the top with a socket extension. BTW, I did this not for belt replacement, rather to replace a worn out voltage regulator on the alternator - A painful job as removing the alternator is just an impossible job which I decided to do without, and was successful.😅 thanks to your video :-)

My belt for some reason hangs off the front of the tensioner almost a quarter inch. And it squeals when it's cold. What would cause that?

@@YOUCANIC yep, it's my belt tensioner. For an 08, it's only got 80k miles on it so I stuck a screw driver in it and it was wobbling bad. So I ordered a AC Delco one off Amazon and will be here at some point today. Thank you for your reply tho!

How long did that take approximately? A garage told me it would take several hours and $800... including that pulley in the upper left corner.

You have a torx bolt on the center of the tensioner pulley you can use.

Torx what? E something?
@YOUCANIC
@YOUCANIC 7 ай бұрын
Hello, thanks so much for your comment. To clarify, the 'E' in 'E Torx' refers to 'external'. These are star-shaped sockets and are typically used in car repairs - a common aspect covered in our YOUCANIC videos. Our goal is to assist you with your car repairs and make them as seamless as possible. If you're seeking a professional diagnostic scanner, we recommend the YOUCANIC Pro System Scanner; you can find out more about it at www.youcanic.com/scanner. Furthermore, if you require Factory Repair Manuals and Torque Specs, you can get access to these at www.youcanic.com/manuals. We hope these additional resources can further aid in your car repair journey.

@@YOUCANIC Thanks for the reply, but if you watch this video, you edited it right before you said the size of the bit - it skips over the important stuff - like removing the beauty cover from the idler pulley, how difficult it is to get a T45 (E) into the rod end and torque it without being able to fit it between the radiator and the bolt is almost impossible. Also the socket to fit the tension roller on my 2007 R500 is not 21mm. I found a 16mm is best. Have a good one, and Happy New Year! 🎉🥳🪩
