That is a great looking jeep. Good information Steve. I am sure it will help many people with the same problem, so they don't have to go through all the attempts you did to figure it out. Thanks for sharing!

thank you Steve for sharing the fix for your Jeep. I heard on the news people are stealing the catalytic converters from a lot of vehicles for the medal that is in them. 💕NonnaGrace

Thanks NonnaGrace! Yes they are stealing them here as well.

I think with most parts, buying aftermarket you run the risk of it not working. But we've pretty much always taken that risk and knock on wood, we've not yet had one not work. Looks like you pretty much replaced everything. Always the last thing you try lol. Glad you got it all fixed up.

I'm so mechanically challenged. It's like your speaking a foreign language to me. I do recognize the spark plug. 🤓 I'm happy to hear you got it fixed Steve. My late husband use to handle all of that for me. I do need to take some kind of basic mechanics class and start learning more. I can change a flat tire. I have a man who wants to give me his old Winnebago. I think it's 31 or 33 feet, maybe late 80's model. He says it just needs a new starter. I know nothing about these things. His lady pasted away suddenly and he no longer uses it, he says. If you have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. See you tomorrow. 😊❤👍🏻

RVs in general always need repairs…. Even when their brand new. Older ones like you describe are best for mechanics who can keep them going. It’s very expensive to pay someone else to do repairs.

@@jollymatilda5890 Traci this would be a good discussion during my live tomorrow. I’ll bring it up in general terms and ask the viewers their opinions as well. I’ll also have an example to show.

The catalytic converter should throw e Check Engine light. P0420,P0421,P0422…. Get an OBD2 scanner and target the source directly. No need to waste time and money changing all them parts. Good luck! 👍

Having a similar issue with my 98 Cherokee sport. If I come to a dead stop sometimes when I give it gas to go it won't do anything g then shuts off and to start it back up I have to turn the key off them on while tapping the gas pedal. I just replaced 3 sensors and it's better but still having an issue. I changed my CAT maybe a year ago

Mine would shut off intermittently and I discovered the PCM was bad. Wiggle the 3 connectors while it's running and if it shuts off that's your problem. The right side connector was bad on mine. Researching it I found out there are solder joints inside on the Board that crack - hence the intermittent issue. You can purchase a replacement through a company called "Flagship One". It cost me $238 and They programmed it with my Vin Number. Now it runs great!

I am having the same issue, I did replace the catalytic converter in 2018

I also had to replace the PCM on mine. You can check it by wiggling the connectors while it’s running. They have solder connections that break.

I had a question Steve was it in limp mode as they call it because I have a 1997 Laredo too and it won’t go past like 30
@DesertAdventuresinArizona11 ай бұрын
Yes - I could only accelerate to about 20-25 and she would sputter and die out. I could restart it and basically idle it back home. As soon as I took off the Cat she ran perfect.

Hi.I have same Jeep. Color and everything. Did all same things. Ended up finally, after couple of years pulling my hair out. It was the 3 plugs that plug into computer on firewall behind coolant over flow canister. One oof the three would back out the tiniest bit after hitting bumps and potholes and stuff, and I always knew when it would because it would run great then start sputtering like it was going to shut off at a red-light or something . I would just have to get out and push all the computers wiring harness plugs back in snug, and everything would run perfect until one of them got lose and backed out again and motor would lose a good electrical connection and start acting up again.

@DavidAshley-om4or I had the same issue later - ended up buying a rebuilt PCM which works great
