I've seen this so many times and never noticed until now that Dominique literally tumbled right out of her bun lol. When she started her floor routine her hair was up in a bun, when she finished it was a ponytail. Love this routine from her, it was absolutely beautiful 🤗

I felt so bad for Vanessa Atler, she always seemed stuck in some kind of bad coaching advice. Or it seems like she may of had a terrible fall on bars at some point and forever traumatized. When I was a gymnasts a kid in my gym was terrified of doing a simple flyaway on high bar and it caused a similar situation. She seems like a really pleasant person too, from her interviews.

I was a former gymnast but only did it for fun...because I was always afraid of the Bars. I fell between the bars a few times and once I landed weird on my back...and that was IT for me. I still love to dance, but that and the tumbling were always my favorite parts of gymnastics. I am STILL a dancer, but cannot tumble anymore!!!!

And sorry, but where the hell was the spotter? She was having a total meltdown and could have seriously injured herself. My disgust for many of the coaches of this era can't be overstated.

Vanessa just really came in the wrong quad. This quad was so focused on all-around gymnasts, and she would have killed it if she could have just given up bars and been a specialist like happened in later quads.

And she could be a 3 event specialist. She was great on all the other 3 events. Would probably win more medals on vault and floor, but could contribute to the team easily on beam too.

She said in an interview somewhere that she was the one who insisted it be kept.. She's actually talked a lot about how she sort of self-sabotaged herself during this chunk, because mentally, she wasn't enjoying the gymnastics anymore, and she just didn't want to do it, but there was so much sunk in, she couldn't just stop. When she didn't make the Olympic team, she said she actually was relieved. Poor kid just spent years being mentally miserable and not having a good outlet or support for it.

Nothing short of a tragedy Dom M could not do more than one Olympics especially when she was only 14 in her first Olympic Games. Think of how long Khorkina's career was compared to hers. And Khorkina isn't even Oksana...still competing in her 40s! Gymnastics MUST be changed from a sport you can do for 10 years to one you can do for 30. More experience must be scored higher somehow... What is something that just simply requires more experience in the sport?

Too bad she had those injuries in 2000, that was literally her last chance to make a 2nd olympics before the Karoylis had full control of the selection procedures. That's how her comeback in 2006 was unsuccessful. She was initially told she could qualify to nationals if she attended the national training camp & compete at least one event at the US classic, but after she 2 finished her 2 events, she was told she needed a combined score of 28.0 to qualify, and she combined a 27.1, which left her out

Severe injuries, a psycho father who abused her and put a hit out on her coach, a court battle to be emancipated from her parents because her father was blowing all her money, all after having been abused by the Karolyi's with her father's blessing... Poor Domi had so much talent and potential, but also had way too much trauma and distraction going on in her life to focus on her gymnastics as much as she needed to. She did win the 98 goodwill games, and qualified for the olympic trials in 2000, but she got injured. She attempted a comeback in 2006, but the Karolyi's blackballed her. You should read her book
