We bought a bus with the intent of converting it into a full time home. This is a walk around to show what we are beginning with. www.Shalom-Home.com

Looks like you have a good operating bus. Keep us informed

Sorry, not quite; we share a language though we sometimes have a few communication issues. I've seen your front, air-powered, shut'n'raise people-door and the stainless continuous hinge you've now fitted. Well done, neat job, we also are removing similar door mechanism. What I was asking about was the 'locker' doors on the side, the pantograph mechanism that allows them to be opened (almost) vertically. Ours open like 'gull-wing' doors and need a lot of space to open usefully; and bash you on the shins. Like you, we are going for a welded inner structure inside the coach/RV, where steel is minimal but tough. Wait till you see our boot(trunk)/ garage area. I think we'll be bouncing ideas off each other for sometime yet. "Slainte".

appledore92 Ah, I understand now. I'll take a video of it an post it up. Our bay doors are great. I need to replace some stabilizers and control arms that have broken. It is difficult to get them open sometimes whent they freeze shut. I'm not sure of how easy it would be to retro fit them, but you could always contact VanHool to see if parts were interchangeable. I was able to get a bunch of manuals. Check with your local dealer to see if you can get the exact manuals for your. By the way, my jaw dropped when i saw how much you stripped your bus down. That is pretty cool and a lot of work.

Shalom-Home Yes we are doing a deeper strip down and renewal than most. There's an EML GoldWing trike going in that boot. Watch the next set of videos. Thats if I can get KZfaq to allow the full length of my video(s). I uploaded 11+ minutes and YT cut it down to 2:30. Maybe if I lower the quality of the files. Anyway, yes I have the full Volvo workshop manual for the underlying engine, chassis and running gear. I have found local suppliers for all the Volvo and VanHool parts I want, its surprising its surprising how easy it is to get parts still . As you can see from the short glimpse so far, I'm not reticent in getting in there with cutting and welding gear. Look forward to a video clip on the hinge stabiliser and control arms. Many thanks.

Does shutting off the master switch while the engine is running, kill the engine or do you need to turn the key to the off position?
@Shalomhome7 жыл бұрын
Shutting off the master switch while the engine is running does not kill the engine. However, the master switch must be on in order to start the engine.
@htung11227 жыл бұрын
@1:21, any idea what the switch located on the top row, fourth from the right does? It looks like a gear with a flag inside. On the bottom row, the second switch from the right, what does that do?
@Shalomhome7 жыл бұрын
polohow I think that switch illuminates the dash. I can check when i get home though.
@Shalomhome7 жыл бұрын
polohow Yup. When flipped, that gear looking button increases the backlighting on the dash buttons.

Hey, we've a T8, t'other side of the pond from you. Similar 'work in progress'. The metal work around the rear, (ours is mid-engined) was in a deplorable state. Have a look at see what we are up to here. Keep posting those vids. I'd like to see a video close up of the pantograph hinges, we have simple lift up and we bang our shins.... Hard ?
@Shalomhome7 жыл бұрын
appledore92 That's great. You're referring to the door hinges, correct? They were pretty cool, but they took up a lot of space and made the door awkward to open and close when the engine was off. I ended up fabricating a traditional door hinge to replace it. You can see more at the link below. www.shalom-home.com/2015/10/25/new-swinging-bus-door/

Please please help me when you deleted the second alternator what did you do to it ?
@Shalomhome2 жыл бұрын
I believe I just insulated the terminal ends and ziptied them out of the way. I am not a mechanic, but I haven't had any issues. I also deleted most of the lights, TV, and speakers, so my draw on the electrical system is substantially less. My 12v house system is now completely independent from 12v bus system.

Did you needed to do a vin verification before getting your rv plates ?
@Shalomhome4 жыл бұрын
I made sure the VINs were in order with the DMV.

You bring up a good point. Sometimes the VINs on paperwork are out of order. I had to work through that issue. Thankfully it is all wrapped up. :)
