1999 Polaris Scrambler 400 4X4 Part 5 Demand drive and Diff Change Plus GoPro RIDE!!
So the demand drive fluid in the hubs (Hillard clutch) can be substituted for Type F fluid. And since the front differential DOES NOT have the Hillard clutch in it, you can use any good synthetic differential oil in it. Pretty easy to do both and they always seem to be neglected.
Then I finally get to take the Scrambler for a good ride with the GoPro on. Such a fun machine, fast as hell for a NON racing quad.
WHERE TO BUY PARTS LINK SCRAMBLER:
Demand drive hubs fluid substitue, Type F amzn.to/2dXWhjc
NON-Hillard Differential. 75w-140 Synthetic gear oil amzn.to/2dAnV6A
Due to changing products, links, etc, If you want the most recent product links (if these are no good), go to www.motocheez.com and click the vehicle you're looking for (upper right).
This keeps the links for all the parts more accurate. These I use and install on ALL my videos. I do not sell any of the items listed. (except maybe a T-shirt once I make them)
Thanks you for watching, PLEASE subscribe!

Hey man, new subsciber here. I just came across your channel and I gotta say man your videos are very impressive, and motivating. I used to love tinkering around with stuff but got tired of doing it all the time and eventually lost interest but after watching some of your vids, you make we wanna go out in the garage, crack a beer and start gettin at it again. I got a 99 Scrammy I planned on selling a few wks ago, but just couldn't do it. Its my first 4 whlr I bought 20 years ago. Your vids gave me the flame under my ass I needed to get it screamin again 🤘

Valvoline full synthetic is what I put in my front diff too. I also put it in the transmission-gearbox. I know Polaris says to use chain-case fluid in the trans but I did it anyway. It shifts into drive and reverse with no grind at all now. I’ve seen to many Polaris machines die of trans gearbox failure running that Polaris purple stuff so I thought I would try a gear oil. I don’t have anything to lose so why not. If also feels to run cooler after a good ride with the 75-90 gear oil in there

Do the old ones work the same way as the new ones with the 4wd?? New ones don’t lock in until the rear wheel slips and automatically goes back into 2wd. Do these old ones lock in when you hit the button?

Same way. When slips it engages

Just to be clear that 75w-90 synthetic oil can go in the front differential and also the transmission? Also wha about the crankcase rotator shaft fluid under the seat to the right of the carb?

One more question. If one were to use the Polaris brand fluid, that same fluid would do the transmission and front differential fluids?
@MotoCheez
@MotoCheez 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. It's been a while since I had this quad, Polaris switched up their fluids a few times over the years.

i got a 2001 polaris scrambler 400 2x4 and when i give it gas it only goes mid throttle and bogs out full throttle. any ideas?
@MotoCheez

Emilio Soto sounds like main jet could be plugged, or air box from mice? I'd drain the carb and look at the main jet hole. let me know how you make out

I took it to a mechanic and he recleaned my carburetor about 2 months ago.

Emilio Soto and it ran fine when you got it back? maybe fouled plug, does it smoke a lot ?
@emiliosoto4426
@emiliosoto4426 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it ran clean if it was on reserve. Now it only runs on reserve and idles too high. I have to turn it off just to put it in drive after warming it up so the gears dont grind. It smokes alot as well. And last time i checked the spark plug it was fine but that was during the summer so.
@MotoCheez
@MotoCheez 7 жыл бұрын
Emilio Soto hmm. still sounds like it could be the plug. you should be able to lower the idle by the idle adjustment.

You spray out all the old junk with brake cleaner? I don't know if it's recommended, but I would... Just so your fresh little 2 ounce shot of oil doesn't instantly turn black from all the contaminated old stuff in there. Easier to tell the condition of the fluid next time you do it.
@MotoCheez
@MotoCheez 5 жыл бұрын
It's not recommended, only because the bearings will be totally dry and there is No way to pack or pre lube the bearings properly. I had a friend ruin his rear differential spraying it out with brake fluid.
