Basically if the YZF-R6 could be bottled and sold on street corners we’d end up junkies, trading in our homes for shopping carts, hanging around recycling centers, rummaging through trash bins for cans and bottles, anything to scrounge up enough cash for one more glorious hit at 15,500 revolutions per minute. Giga high revs can do that to a person, The YZF-R6’s engine begins to kick in at 9000rpm, but at 11,000rpm where most sportbikes begin to peak, the R6 starts pulling and shrieking all the way to the 15,500 redline, virtually uncharted territory for a production four stroke motorcycle. There’s isn’t much power down low and initially we were tempted to slip the clutch in order to punch up into the higher rev range, but the R6 motor spins quickly and reaches its preferred powerband smoothly and almost instantaneously. Yamaha achieved this high revving performance by designing a completely new engine utilizing low internal friction, an optimized ram air induction system and direct ignition. It features side driven camshafts that allow the R6 not only to keep the engine width at a minimum but also permit equal spacing between the cylinders to help ensure uniform heat dissipation, an important feature in a high revving, high performance engine. Yamaha also incorporated the use of equal length inlet tracks for the R6’s smooth immediate pick-up.

Ive got an 02' R6 strait stock just an upgrade on the carb. It will go 173,175mph give or take. Your not going to beat a super bike in a straight. If your a good rider you'll smoke a super bike in curved roads with ease.

I have the 2002 version and I'm quite afraid that the cylinder block will crack, as it's a very common problem with these engines, but apart from the problems it's an incline bike and I wouldn't change it for another 600cc.

love it. have a red one for couple off months. Drive it everyday. Very brutal...Just put a small exhaust. Looks very good and sounds very good..

Hey, I've been wanting to get a r6 lately 1st gen pref but I'm advised not to since people say it's very problematic? Have you had any issues. Ride safe

@@kiril2711 i am still driving it daily. No problems. I do the maintenance myself. After oil change almost 6000 km ago i but some liquid moly oil additive. No oil consumption. Also flush the cooling system. Every two tanks i but carb cleaner in the tank. Engine is almost 50k now and still perfect. Yesterday drove 380km with couple off friends. Today 178km. The engine has to be on temp before you ref it to 1550. I start driving fast after 20 min when the oil is on temp. A buddy off my had a blue one. He had it for 20 years. 149000km on it. He had to change the engine when it cracked in the cilinder.

why there are a lot of negative echoes on the R6 models from 1999 until 2001 that a lot of engine and engine block failures. And that models up to 2001 should be avoided. I found a 2001 first hand with 8000 km in almost new condition but I am hesitant for fear of ending up with an engine that fails.... I even had a dealer who advised me not to buy…. ! Does anyone have reliable information?

Problem with them is that Nikasil plated cilynders tend to peal off and crack over time. I am speeking from experience since I am currently doing an engine rebuild on 2001 r6 but mine has well over 50 000 km on thee clock. And the estimated cost as for now is somewhere around 2000 euros.

Gli ultimi modelli anke se girano altissimo e sotto sn piu morti ke morti, in pista sono impareggiabili, se avessi i soldi e vendessi il mio Suzuki GSXR 750 2008 ke ho solo x pista, ne comprerei una x la pista anke da uno ke è caduto e ha rovinato solo le carene xke lho provata in pista ed è una skeggia
