5:10 Beautiful. There’s nothing I love more than the sound of an f1 car when it’s driving on a long straight away from you and it’s shifting through its gears, to then end with the rapid downshifts for the upcoming corner. There’s just something about that distant cry from the engine that I love the most. And of course the visual aspect of the car disappearing over the hill was the icing on the cake. I’m happy you captured a car going from the start to the end of the straight at least once :)

I don't know how you can call yourself a petrolhead when you don appreciate how good this engines sound and the whistle of the turbo when acceleration and braking happen is just on point.

L.P. Rrurris yeah mate nothing compares to the sound of a V10, V12 and V8 even the flat engines like the RSR or the Old school quattro's but you do have to appreciate this v6 and its technologies that are amazing but you have to admit that turbo whistle and the hybrid system sounds damn good.

I can remember being at Silverstone in 1996 - first time at an F1 race. You didn't hear it on TV, but I loved the massive " crack" every gear change. I had ear plugs in, and I was STILL stone deaf for 4 hours afterwards. Never forget it!

f1 testing is one of my most anticipated parts of the year. just to see you how the new engines will sound for this season. so far all have been good improvements from last year especially the renault although i think ferrari stole its waste gate exhaust lol. really thankful to have the GOAT car youtuber to bring me these sounds!

Doing the vacuum cleaners justice, for sure. Now if only the regulations would let them open the rev ceiling a couple thousand RPM, then maybe they'd sound proper.

they sounded shit last year compared to 2016. they make a lot of banging noises through the corners but once its down the straight there is literally no sound

Indeed mate, luckily not huge problems in terms of engine reliability for anyone. Such a shame for the unusual cold temperatures and snow since it stopped a bit track action even during the first two days

Greetings from Greece Bozzy. Excellent work, excellent quality. As for the Halo and the sound, i think that as the year unfolds we wont mind....especially if the racing is good...Because if its not....then F1 should reconsider the direction of the series. Enough said...Lets wait and see.....

Hi Bozzy. Brilliant day 2 coverage, mate!👌 The sights and sounds of Formula 1 are simply amazing. It's really hard to comprehend how much grip these cars are capable of, even when seeing it with your own eyes.😲 4:11 and the bit following 5:38 are a couple of great examples... just crazy! How about that little oh sh!t moment at 5:04 ? Looked like he clipped the rumble strip and did the big wiggle.😆 Totally enjoying the content you are putting out, sir. Keep up the fine job.👏🙌

I'm a bit disappointed about the cold temperatures since I was just curious to see if they could improve the last year's insane lap times. They were still driving fast but not at the maximum of their capabilities.. Let's wait next week for the second tests session ;)

There is a vast difference between this and the crap the FOM pump out on their broadcasts. Seems home listening is of a higher fidelity in terms of output quality than the inputs captured at the track. The old saying "you put crap in you get crap out" springs to mind

Yes they don't sound as good as a v12 but the way they accelerate out of a corner with the huge instant torque shove makes up for it. I wasn't on board with this engine initially but over the past few years especially with proper aero and tires it has grown on me immensely. For sheer thrill I'd take a drive in a 2018 f1 car over any previous era, historical significance is something entirely different and would be a much harder choice.

Goddamn I hope that Honda does well with Toro Rosso. Just because McLaren made it seem like it was all Honda's fault the last years. Sure a lot of it was but McLaren didnt really seem interested in helping to make the situation better. Go Toro Rosso! Go Honda!

19Bozzy92 you should try using microphones like Destin from Smarter Every Day, his second channel The Sound Traveler. It uses binural beats to give the sound more placement in 3D space.

Yep, I know Destin's channel and I must thanks him for letting me know a bit more the binaural word. Wish Red Bull used their new camouflage blue livery all throughout the season and not just as a special edition for certain races. Engine sound is louder but the noise isn't as sweet as V10/V12 era., but hey as long as it is more competitive with a lot of great passing skills and very good driver and team tactics.

The Mercedes engine sounds incredible on the downshifts are deceleration. The Ferrari engine is sounding pretty nice as well. Red Bull have done something to the Reno engine because all the other cars with the Reno power unit sound good but nothing like the red bull

Any word on what visibility is like in the cockpit with that piece of halo sitting right in front of them? They could have made the helmets three times larger in order to provide more protection to the drivers -- plus, it would have been a lot funnier to look at than those crazy halos.

Can't see why they keep testing in Barcelona in February, they should do that in a warmer country like many times it's been suggested. I live a few kilometers from there, by the coast, and just because we live in the Mediterranean it doesn't mean it's always hot and sunny here (yes, we DO have cold winters, rainy and sometimes snowy)

Gerard Jaleo The thing is, there are very few (if any) other circuits that can help teams test aerodynamics as well as mechanical handling of a car as well as Catalunya does. That's the reason it's preferred as a testing venue in the first place. Silverstone is another, but it's too cold in February to get any reasonable testing done.

I mean, it's been suggested by the teams to test in Bahrain since 2016 (if are the teams suggesting that, they know better than us). Of course I do love Montmeló, but if are gonna test in February during winter colds (and with new asphalt this year) then I don't think it's the best

i wonder how much power these engines would make as naturally aspirated? if they make near 800 with turbo and MGU-K, MGU-H then i reckon they must make about 400 without

The Halo might be ugly, but I have to say that I’ve got used to them already. I suggest that Ferrari paint there’s black though or keep it carbon fibre as it looks terrible in red; sticks out like a sore thumb.
