Great job, these houses are already being assembled like a Lego constructor! Conveniently and most importantly, high-quality houses are obtained!

No thanks, this is literally my most popular video with a few hundred views every day. So apparently you're basically the only one bothered by it

Nice work! I missed it if you said this-- did you buy a design for the post and beam? And/or was the wood part of a kit or did you spec it out to the saw mill? Why did you decide to use post and beam instead of regular stud framing?

I wasn’t very specific, I just came up with a suuuuuper simple design in CAD just using my understanding of physics especially in reference to gravity. So basically the kit would sit together with no bolts just gravity hold it together. That way it’s guaranteed not to fail then all the extra strength the bolts provide it just holding everything in place. I decided to go this route because one goal with the addition was A. Taller ceilings and 2. (Joke) having an elaborate architectural space for gatherings. C. I’m a glutton for punishment and always push myself to the limit. It wouldn’t impress the family quite as much without the giant beams. Oh nothing specific for the mill, my father in law knew the miller and I knew I’d need 8x 8”x8” and 8 2x12”s This was also during that wood inflation time period so it was cheaper to go the elaborate route 🤷‍♂️

@@ecophage it looks beautiful inside and matches perfectly outside. Do you think post and beam saved you money? I always wondered if building permit people would be apprehensive about post and beam and require a structural engineer sign off.

@@kettch42 probably broke even cost wise because any savings in lumber for the structure was used to buy fancy tongue and groove boards and fancy closed cell insulation. I think my codes person would have been cool with everything because it’s so overbuilt and no piece relys on any bolt tensile strength or even shear strength. With that said I’m sure they’d have found problems with something maybe roof abutment or something. Luckily where I live there’s limited codes I just had to file rough dimensions and costs. But on the down side my neighbor is literally living in an RV and put an addition on it. . . 😑 You win some you loose some lol

@@ecophage Thanks for the response. Maybe you saved money, since you could have put tongue and groove up for walls on a stud framed house too, ya? Or am I missing something. About insulation, I'm guessing you're saying that you can't use insulation bats because the cavities are too wide, so that's why you used the closed cell insulation panels?

@@kettch42 good point suppose I could have tongue and grooved a regular framed room lol As far as insulation, my house is 6” of blown if fiberglass, on the addition I had limited space and the equivalent in r value with closed cell was 4” so it seemed to make sense instead of spending hundreds extra to make the room more insulated that the rest of the house. But width was a big concern too I had very little space on either side the extra 4” might have caused some issues especially with the bulkhead. It was basically right against it
