The tradition of inheriting a deceased brother's wife is in Igbo tradition. Please, do not mind those among your congregation that gave the impression that this is not part of Igbo culture. They do not know about it either because they were born and bred in the city or are too young to pay attention to what their parents are saying about what obtains in their land. The application of the tradition is however dependent on if the persons involved - that is the widow and the deceased husband's brother, agree.

Even in urhobo culture, widows are given to the brother of a deceased. I am surprised the pastor doesnt know. It's a culture that cuts across Africa. I saw one happen opposite my house in the 1990's. They are of my tribe urhobo and it happened in Lagos not the village. I wasn't told I witnessed it although the brother later accused the widow of witchcraft and stopped taking her home to sleep with her. 32:51
