The 1971 to 1976 Gm Full size Wagon was a common site in the 1970 to 1980 decade. They were everywhere. Then the Mini Van took over and the full bodied wagon became the top Derby car. Fast forward to 2021, a small group of car guys and gals are realizing that this part of American needs to be saved and show cased.
Watch the first ever reunion and the 50th Anniversary of the 1971 GM Wagon get together.

I grew up in a '72 Pontiac Le Mans wagon painted Springfield Green. My parents brought me home from the hospital at my birth in that too. Probably my first memory in life was inside that car, too, when we took a road trip to Niagara Falls.

I so wish I was in this group! We had a ‘73 Buick Estate Wagon when I was a kid. That thing was a tank! Wish someone would have shown the storage space under the “back-back” deck. I remember it being huge. Looking at the group of clamshells assembled here.. how many family vacations they represented! ❤️

My father inherited a 70s buick estate wagon back in the early eighties from a friend that passed away. The friend was a funeral director who used the car for transporting bodies!! It had the 488 rocket motor and was loaded with all the goodies back.then!! We used it for going to the beach and the drive in movies. The other kids didnt like driving it but i didnt mind because it had the rocket motor and would fly down the highway!! We werent used to power windows and one time my sister put the passenger side window up on my mothers arm!! That doidnt feel too good for her!! I think we ended up trading it in for a better gas milage car, i woudnt want to have to fill that up nowadays, not with gas at 4 dollars a gallon!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!

So cool. There was a guy here in Montana who had a huge field filled with clam shells in various conditions, but all restorable. He passed last year and his widow auctioned off the yard. I heard all the clamshells got snapped up by one guy. I hope they get restored and not derbied.

Great video. Looks like a fantastic day out with some very nice people. My dad had a clam shell wagon in the 80s in and American base in Spain. These massive land yachts sure attracted some attention back then when all European cars were small and were dwarfed in comparison. As a young boy I absolutely loved these cars and still do. Thank you for posting.

I had a 72 buick estate. It had a 445 engine. That car run great right up to the time I traded it off. Only thing that was an issue is rust, lots of rust issues over the seen years I owned it.

Great video, thank you for it. My Dad always had station wagons . Had a gold 72 I think it was and I remember him saying it had either 300 or 350 horsepower. I know it had a 350 in it. We all went from Nashville TN all the way to Disney in Florida in 81 I think it was. They were building Epcot. I was 10. My sister and I she was 11.5 rode all the way in the back, no seat. Brother was 20, sister was 15 other sis 11 and half and I was 10 plus Daddy and Momma. Just me and one sister left. She is still mean, she was sneaking booze back then. Still sneaking doing evil wherever she goes. Good times back then though. I am gonna try to get me a wagon. Another wagon I liked we had was a 66 Buick that had the wrap around glass on the roof. That was a sharp car. My Dad got it in the early 80's . My sister wrecked both the wagons I have spoken of, I just remembered that...,

I love the ‘71 Olds as well, but my absolute favorite is the ‘72 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser! My parents had a Buick Sport Wagon, followed by the ‘72 Olds Custom Cruiser. It was a cream color with the wood grain, just like the ‘71 in this video! It had a 455 Rocket. -I need one. My mom is 91 years old, & she remembers hers well! I just spoke to her about hers today. She is small, but would whip that thing around like it was a toy.

Beautiful idea. Ever since I saw my first caprice wagon at the age of five I've been drooling over them for almost forty years. I can't get a driver's license in my country as I was found smoking marijuana as a pedestratian as a pain medicine for titanium arm.

My best friend father had a 1971 Pontiac Safari Clamshell wagon back in the day and we would take the keys on the weekend and go into the city to go clubbing and try to get it back before dawn Sunday morning so he and his family could go to church in the morning. He never noticed that there was extra miles on his car and me and my best friend would fill the tank and he never noticed that either
