This is the first swam for me this year. We did see a capped queen cell in one of the hives near by 12 days ago. Is has been cold and this was the first warm day in about a week. I did not find swarm cells in any other of my hives 12 days ago.

Thanks Jason. I always prefer to let them walk in a box instead of shaking and getting a lot of them airborne.

Just saw you on VWFarm and I find everything about bee keeping incredibly fascinating!! I’m absolutely amazed at how you pick up a bunch of bees like that!!

At first I could not do that. But after several years of working with bees I am a lot more comfortable.

Danny Brewer wow really?? You are a natural, you have soooo much knowledge to share and look at how many people you were able to reach! Heck I’m all the way up in Canada 🇨🇦 Actually I was wondering if you have heard of this “Asian murder hornet” that is suppose to be entering our country and it was down in Washington state as well, apparently our native North American bees have no defences against these hornets and so they kill off entire colonies of honey bees. I saw it on this television station .... globalnews.ca/news/6901007/giant-asian-murder-hornet-canada/ And the video showing them ... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsp5fbWEq5mmiqs.html Are you aware of this and is this a genuine threat to the North American honey bee population or is this just “fake news” ...or the media blowing something way out of proportion?

Leanne Knebel I am a state bee inspector for Arkansas. We have a group called Apiary Inspector of America(AIA). We zoom once a month to see what is going on in each state and Canada. It appears they have only found two maybe three of the Asian Hornets. I would not be worried about them at this time. They have several traps out trying to see if they can find anymore and are ready to react if they do.

Danny Brewer that’s good news! I was surprised actually to hear that in the local media and yet didn’t see anything on KZfaq about it and wondered if it was just a slow news day or something. It certainly would be alarming the entire honey bee community if it were much more prevalent I figured and since I hadn’t heard anything about it not had some of the bee keepers on KZfaq so I wondered what it was all about. I‘ve been watching a lot of the KZfaq channels specific to bees and beekeeping and while I’ll never care for any bees I’m utterly fascinated by them. I think we could all learn so much from them and I truly think the honey they produce is such an incredible healing component for all humans and with all the incredible qualities that the honey contains. I began using Beekeeper’s naturals products and the medicinal side of their product line is all natural and I swear the moment I feel any type of itchy or sore throat I spray this special spray it immediately begins to kill whatever bacteria or virus that tried to multiply. Also I had a wound that would not heal and we had tried all the prescription based creams and lotions absolutely nothing would work, I went months trying to heal this one particular area of my body and then a nurse who had done emergency medicine and had transferred into wound care suggested I put raw honey on it. I couldn’t believe my ears I was having it bandaged and covered and other times I would leave it open to the air and we were using some much antibiotic cream and cleaning it with antiseptic and when the nurse said about putting honey on it I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I repeated honey? Like the stuff u put in tea or on toast? She said yes but not the stuff you buy at the grocery store it can’t be processed it must be raw honey. I said okay and I began putting it on my wound and within a day I could see a change and it was obvious healing was beginning...after ten days it was almost all gone! I washed it in between applications and disinfected the area each time and the honey although sticky was very soothing and felt really nice actually. But the main thing was the healing that I observed was so dramatic. I still can’t believe it, I asked the nurse how in the world she came up with using honey and she said it was a normal course of treatment when traditional methods of medicine weren’t working.

Leanne Knebel there is a medical honey. Straight honey out of the hive can have some bacteria in it. That is why they say do not feed to children. Their stomach acid are not strong enough to kill the bacteria if present. Glad you healed up.

Nice work. I recommend locking them in for two days. In the dark of a cool shed preferably. A friend of mine lost two swarms within an hour of each other today.

By gum, that's an early swarm. A swarm of bees in March is worth a Marble Arch. A swarm of bees in April is worth a hill. A swarm of bees in May is worth a load of hay. A swarm of bees in June is worth a silver spoon. A swarm of bees in July is only worth a fly. A swarm of bees in August is worth a pile of dust. A swarm of bees in September, one cannot remember.

Like I say I don’t know a lot about all of this but one thing I don’t understand is why they swarm in the first place? So when they swarm they move out of whatever house they were in and take with them as much honey etc that they can but why do they leave to begin with? That’s something I don’t understand.
@arkansasbeekeeper

They actually split in half. Usually the older queen takes bees and supply to start a new colony somewhere else. The main colony will raise a new queen and keep going. It is a natural thing that bees do.

@arkansasbeekeeper
@arkansasbeekeeper 6 жыл бұрын
A little luck and skill. She is usually on the move all the time. Sometimes I will just stand there and watch to see if I can find her and other times I will start getting handfuls of bees and putting them in a box. Some swarms will have more than one queen. Also you can collect the swarm, then dump them over a queen excluder that is placed on top of your hive body. Most of the swarm will go through the excluder to the frame and the queen/s will be on top of the excluder.
