I'm dying for someone to make an updated Nomad tierlist. As far as I know no one made one since the great nomad rebalancing. Where they took away all the pre- first TC buffs, that spanish, persians and malians had.

overall i hink Arena is a lot more fun if the S Tier civ are excluded. they really ruin the fun for almost everyone.

True for almost all maps except Arabia and Arabia clones. And then Nomad in its own super-class of OP civs dominating.

Good list. Only gripe would be Poles. Think they should be S Tier. They can Castle Drop Better than most as they don't need to go gold. Also great Trushing civ. They can be aggressive throughout the game.

Their castle drop is very underwhelming though as their UU is terrible for that specific purpose.

Win rate shouldn't have any correlation to viablity as far as I'm concerned. They lack so much context they barely prove anything

I remember a recent Arena game (finale of a tournament I think) where Tatoh took Tatars against Bengalis and won by flaming cameling elephants.

1500 1v1 ELO and part time clown here, and I'm surprised you put Spanish so low. I always feel like I *have* to go defensive castle against them, conqs are just so annoying to deal with. Is there some higher ELO secret to dealing with them I'm missing? Like should I be tower rushing them? Gujaras are also a surprise. Yeah Chakrams are good, but one good onager hit will flatten your whole army.

I wouldn't tower rush Spanish unless maybe I could actually see they had forward stone (very unlikely in dark age). As long as they don't get the castle forward, conqs aren't so awful to deal with in castle age on arena. Skirms, xbows or monks can all work fine (as long as your monks have sanctity and you actually commit to at least double monastery)

I think the one big thing holding the Spanish back at the highest ELOs is lacking any real bonus before castle age. You do have the "techs give back 20 gold" bonus now, which definitely helps, but it's just not as good as the S tier civs. Like Ornlu said in the video, the current Arena meta is all about fast timings and hyper aggression with monks, castles and light cav, and civs like Turks, Burgundians or Bengalis can just pull that off better without sacrificing their eco. With Spanish you often have to decide to either build your eco and risking getting overwhelmed by a castle drop and/or rush or go for fast castle age, but falling behind economically. Obviously, Conqs and their late game is still pretty insane, the question is can you get there in time, and without sacrificing too much.

What Eidelweiss said - you're just slower than a lot of other civs. You have to give up A LOT to go forward Castle conqs, and are not likely to have as good an imperial age time as the best civs. Also, civs like Turks, Bengalis, Bohemians, etc. have good enough ecos/gold-intensive army compositions that they can play standard just as well as the hyper aggro stuff. Spanish need to go all in to keep up, kinda like Portuguese. Portuguese are just a lot better at that style. As for Gurjaras, having BBC helps them out a lot vs Onagers. It's not perfect, and I did rank them a bit too high at first, but they're still really solid overall.

Huns D Tier. I want to put in the game Hera lost with Bohemians to Huns there. Huns can at least do _something_ most of the time, they are a lot faster out of the gates and take map control really well. I think there are a bunch of worse civs.

Well every civ has at least a fighting chance in most match ups. It's not like it's auto-win vs auto-lose.

Poles can go aggressive too with tower rush into CD. Or just straight CD into fast imp. Why fast imp? Because all you need is 2 folwarks to boost that food income required and you also get gold from stone to help with the gold cost of imp Idk why people always say the same generic shit about "Poles like to be slow" when they can go super aggressive and win

Great tier list. I feel like Arena gameplay would benefit a lot if Market wasn't so strong in Feudal/Castle and if Redemption was an Imperial age technology. What are your thoughts about it? I think too many all ins are just so much harder to stop when your civ has Redemption but theirs doesn't, is too unbalanced of a tech in Castle for my taste

after all these years i still dont like the way the forest works on arena, for me fortress is just a more fun map that deserves much more love than it gets

I sincerely do not understand your placing of Magyars. They have literally no eco bonus. All their good units are mounted, which is not that great on Arena, since the mobility is not very good and they all take bonus damage from Halbs. I can't see why they are a tier better than Berbers/Huns/Tatars. And then you did not even put them bottom of C-Tier. I really don't get it.

Given the prevalence of light cav meta Magyars are actually not bad. Between free iron casting and cheap light cav you basically auto-win any light cav relic war with Magyars. It’s also hard to monk rush or castle drop them for the same reason. This means that it’s not too hard for Magyars to end up with really good map control by mid-late castle age, which can allow them to buy time to make up for their shortcomings in eco or whatever else. After that you do have really strong late game units, arbs, paladins, HCA, huszars etc. you still struggle a lot against infantry + siege or the really fast civs as he mentioned, but the light cav war strength really saves Magyars from the fate of superficially similar civs like Berbers, Tatars or Huns

Yeah Turks are the strongest civilization on Arena confirmed by my 1,000+ games with 70-80% win rate Britons are overrated in my opinion and could go down to B tier. Spanish are underrated with their tech tree and could be bumped up to A tier.
