Perhaps Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer. You can always default to a damp lint free cloth. Thanks for watching!

I did this on my 2015 Elantra last summer, but removed by blower motor as per the recommendation of the product’s manufacturer. They say NOT to go thru the vents. It worked well, but the moldy smell started to return this summer. I used the cleaner again, and it’s fine now, so I plan to follow their advice and do this every 6 months. I have a tip for any other Elantra (maybe other Hyundai, too?) owners... I’m not as flexible as I was 20 or 30 years ago, and getting my blower out wasn’t terrible, but being twisted upside-down under my dash was less than easy. But in my car, there is a resistor for the blower motor that inserts directly into that exact duct between the blower and the evaporator. Only 2 Phillips screws, it’s considerably smaller and lighter than the blower motor, and a bit easier and quicker to take out. So- one electrical clip and 2 screws later, I had a clear opening of about 3 square inches right into the exact same place I accessed by taking out the blower. Last year I had to run the Klima Cleaner’s tube past that resistor anyhow, so this technique was a bit easier. I put the resistor back when finished, and voilá... all done. -Waited the rest of the 20 minutes, and everything worked fine.

Great instructional video.I just received a can of IZ Klima Cleaner for the mold contamination in my Dodge Charger. It might be helpful for other viewers to know that the instructions on the can now warn against injecting the foam in the vents. It says further that the best method for application is removing the blower motor and injecting it directly to the evaporator coil.If this is not possible it says to inject it through the evaporator drain on the under side of the vehicle. Hope this helps.

I know that some of these cleaners have a very powerful smell. That would be one good reason to do it when you don't plan to drive the vehicle for a little while. I would guess that the reason it is flammable is because it has to evaporate leaving very little if any stuff in there at all. That is probably because it is being sprayed into a difficult part of the car to get to. I know people who have changed heater cores in their cars and trucks and it is not fun to do and it is even less fun in todays cars with all the wires that need to go in the correct places or all hell might break loose. I have a 2006 Jetta and finding and replacing a bad module that was causing a battery drain cost me $2000 in parts and labor. It was awful, I had to charge the battery every time I took the car out and the battery was beginning to suffer from that also. I had things like windows at random times not responding and I could not open my fuel door without crawling into the trunk from the back seat and popping it with the emergency release. That was so I would have a letter time pulling the carpet back to manually pull the catch back holding the fuel door shut. All of that misery was caused by two bad modules. I had it at the dealer and they forgot to tighten the alternator connection and a third of the way to Pittsburgh, my car was acting up pretty badly from the battery not getting charged. That was a horrible Thanksgiving. I was going to see my Grandmother that day and called it off because I had to get the car towed. I am just glad there was a housing plan off the main drag that I was able to get into before the car finally stopped, that made it much less likely for there to be an accident from the car parked in the middle of the road. That would have been really bad because my battery was getting so dead that even the lights were starting to not work and of course you would want the 4 ways on if it was in the middle of some back road were there is no one around for a few miles to help you. My car has electric power steering and drive by wire throttle body so with a low battery I felt screwed!! This should give someone some idea what kind of gremlins hide in these newer cars and how mean they can be. They are great cars until these things happen and then it can get expensive.

Thank you very much ManClubAustin. The vents in my 2011 BMW X5 smell musty and moldy for a few minutes in the morning when I run the AC or I fan. I took my car to the dealer a couple of times and they said there are no leaks and everything is fine. It was very frustrating. I bought this stuff on Amazon and applied the foam just like you mentioned in your video this morning. It took me some time to get the tube deep in the bowls of the evaporator coil housing. I only inserted the tube in the two center vents and not the side vents for the fear of spraying the fan motor. I had to turn on the AC with fan off to open some internal vent to get tube down there. I saw the foam solution pour out of the AC drain and it bleached the mold on my driveway. The 1Z Klima smell was strong initially, but very pleasant. Some reviews for 1Z on some other sites indicated that it might take 2 treatments, so I will let you know if it fixed the problem.

I don't know if it'll ever be "fixed" - think of this treatment as like maintenance. Whenever you have dark, moist location....mold/mildew will thrive. Just do it once or twice a year to keep things fresh. I agree, at first it's really strong. But after a day or two, it it nice.

The smell kind of came back when it rains or is humid after about 3 months. However, a mechanic friend told me to blast the fan on and A/C off about 3-5 minutes prior to your destination. I think this really helps but I need to test it during the warmer months.

It'll come out rather quickly at first, then just go to the normal condensation drip (depends on how humid your environment is).

Great video. Could you please share if you had the recirculation mode on or off when you turned on the AC on low after the treatment was done after 20 minutes? I believe it should be turned on but I'm not too sure. Thanks.
@ManClubAustin
@ManClubAustin 9 жыл бұрын
The instructions don't really specify...they just want you to turn on the AC with the fan on high (sometimes called MAX A/C). I see the recirculate light on, so mine was on at the time. Thanks for watching!

DON'T turn on the recirculation when using this. You want to bring in fresh air into the system, not recirculate the old.

Would be much better to just spay the thing above the blower (remove all filters) while the blower is actually spinning. This will spread the stuff all over the evaporator. Also adjust the climate to blow through all vents. Just make sure to place some cloth over the vents so you don't get the solution inside the car. Alternately, one can spray the cleaner into the air grid below the wipers (from outside), you can see with a flash light where is the air hole that goes to the blower. Again with the blower spinning and something to protect the vents.

@Peppermint: Interesting, I thought it was actually recommended to snake the applicator hose through the blower fan blades so as to gain access to the top of the evaporator core.
@Peppermint1
@Peppermint1 5 жыл бұрын
@@ginger-bread_manThat is also good, only one doesn't have visual contact and may not spray it evenly over the evaporator. While spraying right into the air flow will ensure proper and even dispersion

@@Peppermint1 : This product's composition comes out as a foam when sprayed. It may be tough to spray it through the intake vents or over the fan blower.
