I really wanted to start this video with a shot of the life-sized figure of the Queen, standing outside a cottage in Cholsey, waving to her subjects, but, sadly, there wasn't time to film it.
Instead, we cut straight to the action with the good people of Tackley lining the platforms of their local station to wave to 6201 Princess Elizabeth as she raced through at the head of the Solihull to Kensington Olympia; The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.
From Tackley, it was down to Cholsey, with one camera on the station and the other by the church. The non-LMS whistle that can be heard in the distance is Ivor The Engine, which was standing in the bay platform at Cholsey, but as 6201 was on the up main, it was not possible to catch the two locos together.
A quick dash up the M4 brought us to Chiswick for a third runpast.
Having dropped the passengers at Olympia, and stabled the stock somewhere near Wembley, 6201 ran to Clapham Junction to turn, pausing on Cremorne Bridge to salute Her Majesty, and to signal the start of the pageant. Determined not to miss this historic event, we walked a total of four miles, carrying two cameras and a tripod, to get the shot.
In the evening, we went to Olympia to see the start of the homeward run, before racing to Sunningdale. Somewhere between these two points, 6201 had lost time and was put behind a Reading bound local, leading to a signal check around Longcross and a more spirited passing of Sunningdale than one usually sees.

Only now, 50 years after the Beeching report do I understand what the outcry was all about. Each steam train has a living beating heart with soul. I wish I was able to take it in more back in the late 50's - early 60's

The Princesses were to me the best looking archetypal steam locomotive. They were mighty powerful and picked up speed from a standing start very quickly

Thank you so much for taking and posting this video. It has given and brought quite a bit of pleasure to yours truly, friends, and family members. We watched on BBC from across the pond, having been in London just a week before. Your video shows much that we missed, and much of what I imagine it was to be there. And of course, 6201 Princess Elizabeth too. Well taken. I've bought the OO Hornby Diamond Jubilee set too. Very good memories of England. Thank you!

It was the highlight for me too Bob. We only got into position by the bridge about ten minutes before she arrived. People around us had been waiting for hours to see the Queen and weren't aware of the role that Lizzie was about to play. Non enthusiasts are often thrilled to witness the appearance of a steam loco but the rapturous applause on this occasion was something else.

What a day out for Lizzie. Superb. What it must have been like for the crew to stand her on the bridge and to start everything of?. And I'm not ashamed to say the last shot of her coming round the bend brought a little tear to the eye. All the best.

i was at warwick parkway waiting in the rain for this. was a little disappointed that there wasn't more decoration on the loco but i guess the weather may have decided that. I'm glad you got the engine leaving the bridge at start of the pageant as that was the best bit for me.

Great little mini doco that a steam enthuisiast would really appreciate! You got some great shots at speed. Pretty amazing that a steam engine would be chosen to start of the ceremonies!! Just shows that the UK is - by far - the capital of preserved steam. 6201 is a bit of a favourite of mine since she was on the only UK steam excursion I've been on... Kings X to York rtn... good value, as she seemed to be purring along at her max permitted speed most of the way…☁☁☁☁☁⁘⁙⁙Hᴜɢʜ….TU…..ツ

I don't know. But at a guess I'd say that it's SS Barking, a motor tug built in 1928 at the Faversham shipyard of J Pollock and Son & Co Ltd. It was converted to steam by its current owner.
