When my lease was up on my 2017 Silverado 5.3L. , went with the 2.7L , was skeptical at first but then thought about it , the 5.3 had a multi displacement engine and was in 4 cyl most of the time on the highway. But I didn’t notice the trailer at all and fuel it’s what figured for a gas engine pulling a trailer. So far I’m very impress with it. I think everyone avoids it cause they are use to a full size truck been a v8 or 6. But for the price and preforming it’s down very well

under ideal weather conditions - with a bed tonneau - it will be notably better. Also 87 octane is a trade-off ... cheaper gas, lower fuel economy - especially on winter blend. I have an ecotec 2.0 in my passenger car ... on snow tires and idling a lot in winter, on 87 octane - the fuel economy dropped by 15%. With the tonneau cover in summer, properly inflated tires and higher octane fuel - you might see over 23mpg average - even better on the highway staying around the speed limit.

Worrying about MPG when driving a pickup truck is comical. It's such a small part of the equation in terms of total cost of ownership. The cost per mile is closer to .50-.60 cents a mile vs the .12 cents you quoted in the video. Flat out depreciation, wear and tear on the powertrain/drivetrain, consumable parts like water pumps, belts, batteries, tires, various fluids, and finally fuel. It's expensive to operate these machines and most folks just have no idea until they're sitting at the dealership or a independent mechanic complaining about how expensive -insert repair here- is.

That highway driving I was driving from Lititz Pennsylvania to Newport News VA. rather fast. I get my best mileage keeping the tach under 2000 rpm. I am having the same issues with my 19 Sierra with the 4.3 V6. Terrible fuel economy because of the big hood and bulkiness of the truck. It's creating too much wind resistance as that big hood and big bulk is trying to punch a hole through the air thus causing the motors to work harder. Here's an explanation: gmauthority.com/blog/2018/09/2019-silverado-fuel-economy-why-the-numbers-barely-moved/ Poor judgement by GM in letting this happen when its closest competitors, Ford and Dodge, are getting better fuel economy from similar engines. The big hood and low seating also inhibits visibility. In the base model I have, there isn't even a manual adjust for height. Even a base Cruze has it. I even sat in a Sierra that had a power seat and it didn't make much of a difference as the seat starts off too low and the power version does not life it high enough to get a good view. I've owned GM trucks for 30 years...this one has been the most disappointing....5 recalls, the radio had to be replaced, and the doors needed to be resealed due to water leaks. Now, I'm getting a hard 1-2 shift in the tranny, a tremendous amount of rattling in the cab when the truck travels over bumpy terrain, and a lot of wind noise. Wish I could trade it in but I'd lose too much money. Has your truck been better?

Im not sold on the 2.7L. With 4 cylinders, a turbo charger, and all the stuff GM has done to the engine to coax power out of it. I cant see the fuel savings offsetting the cost of ownership when considering the cost of parts and labor after the warranty is up. If you can afford to get into a new truck every 3 years, then it's probably cost-effective. After 5 years, even with regular maintenance, like most vehicles, stuff is going to break and Turbos aren't cheap. I will stick with my 5.3l with AFM. Replacing a lifter will still be cheaper than the cost of replacing a turbocharger.

@@thunderbolt5354 you do realize the 2.7T hae a much more usable torque curve then the 5.3L V8? The 2.7T 348lb-ft of torque from 1500-4000RPM, the 5.3L torque doesn't peak until 4000rpm(383lb-ft), requiring downshift to keep the rpm up to do any real work. I'd take the 2.7T and its diesel like torque every time. Thats even before considering the 75 miles average farther per tank the 2.7T can drive then the 5.3L.
@thunderbolt53543 жыл бұрын
@@hogrod Bullshit Dude the 5.3 has a way Higher towing and Hauling rating ! The 2.7 TurboTURD Doesn't come close to the towing and hauling ability of the 5.3 and 6.2 ecotec V8 powered GM Trucks ! 5.3= 11600 pound tow rating 2.7TurboTurd 7000 pound tow rating !
@hogrod3 жыл бұрын
might want to look at your info, GM raised the tow rating 2000lbs for 2021 with no changes to the truck. GM engineers said further testing showed it more than capable of the new 9600lb rating. Unless your talking with the max tow package the 5.3l and 6.2l both tow about the same as the 2.7L now. Also don't forget, lighter engine gives the 2.7T a highest payload of all 1500 trucks. Drive one before you comment, you would realize your prized V8 isn't that much of an improvement in towing capability. Power curve doesn't lie.

If I wanted the 4-cylinder I would have got a small car. Im hoping to stick with my 5.7l Dodge Ram which can tow a lot more than the 4 cylinder turbo. Your fuel economy will be better on the 4-cylinder as long as you're not revving up those turbos all the time then you will see a big difference in fuel economy. As I'm reading this I'm thinking of the price of gas in Canada at a 1.40 per liter. Lol maybe the 4-cylinder is not looking so bad now LOL........ EDITED.... THE NEW FORD 2021 V6 TWIN TURBO POWERBOOST IS THE BEST WAY TO GO 😊

If you're really towing heavy you wouldn't use a half to be fair. This towing 6k lbs all day will be fine vs a 5.7 . My old dump trailer empty was just under 3k lbs and my 1500 got terrible milage even empty . Granted this was years ago with the 6 speed, but motor was still the same as today

I currently own a 2011 Gen 1 Hennessey Raptor, and looking to add a new truck. I've been looking at the Ram EcoDiesel but this GM 2.7 has caught my eye. Diesel is pretty much the same price in my area versus regular unleaded but I always run premium in my Raptor so this is a big consideration.

@@tjh7797 My comment was comparing the Ram EcoDiesel to this 2.7 L running premium as that's what I run in my Raptor. I know a few people with this 2.7 L that are not getting much better fuel economy than the 5.3 L so I'm going to stick with the EcoDiesel.

Big question for me is what the long-term reliability will be. Will this motor hold up well over time, or will it go bad after only 60,000 miles? It it runs well, gets good performance and fuel mileage, and is durable, then it will be a great addition to the GM lineup.
