2 Barrel Pond cleaning system DETAILED STEP BY STEP

I made this DIY 55 Gallon 2 Barrel Filter POND FILTRATION SYSTEM for my Outdoor kio pond.
I looked on the internet for a filtering system and could not find anything with good details so I made this. This is my first Instructable, I'm not an expert and this pond filter experiment has been pulled together from other Instructables and internet research.

Excellent video I already have a 1 barrel filter but I'm going to up it to a 2 barrel system.now keep up the good work ponds looks great 👍

Word of advice, the gasket or "0" ring doesnt go on the threaded sidecof the bulk head. The way he has it set up the gasket should be on the outside of the barrel. Over all i like your design, nice job!

Great job Paris and thanks for sharing. For a little more filtration, a sponge and media filter layer in your higher drum above the rocks before run off to bio ball tank would improve (polish) your pond water even further.

Good to see it can be done with just two barrels. There are a lot of filters out there with three or even four! I have only been able to find two locally :D

Great Video...made two 55 gallon filters..2 days later & 6 trips to hardware store (you never have all parts need even after a made list......also would change air pipes to exlarge air stones less expensive & more air .....Thanks Wendy/Wayne

Gonna be doing something similar with those 1 ton cubical fluid tanks to clean a dugout pond here in Alberta. Dugout is some 350,000 gallons. and the whole system needs to be able to be drained for winter because there is no way I can keep a system of that size from freezing solid in our -40C winters. I'll let you know how it all goes.

Great video, very informative. Just wondering how can you back flush to drain dirty water out of your rock tank. I notice you boiled the water but I always thought that after water was boiled it should drain out from the top but your drainage is at the bottom. How does it work?

How do u flush the dirt out when your back wash drains are at the bottom and you use a air manifold to blow the dirt to the top thru the gravel and bio

The air will loosen the "dirt" which will drop to bottom during settling, where the bottom flush drains will remove the dirty water.

The infamous blue barrels everyone's got....... Best to cover up the barrels to prevent mosquitos from breeding. No idea if you have them where you are.

You can buy small high output air compressors designed for this very thing. Air should go to pond and to "boil" or turn the bio balls in bio tank. The video he shows a quick connector and ball valves for controlling which tank gets air. He may have since attached a permeant air compressor so that it is on all the time during the spring, summer, and fall. Only thing you have to watch out is that water does not backwash into your compressor by either a air loop above water level of a safety check valve.

Carefully placed larger ones in-between air lines, above, around, and smaller ones to fill in to create lots of surface area for water.

He said from a farm supplier, but a pond supplier will also have those bulkheads... better option is rubber ones, drill then just push your pipe in, no tightening and no leaks.
