Our 2 basenjis - brother & sister Dabi & Prisca - refused to go do their “business” in the yard because - horrors! - the yard was wet.
It had stopped raining, but you can hear a loud dripping noise in the video, as water dripped from our pergola.
Happily, I did get the babies to give me a few “meows.”

Your basenjis are just too angelic! Those faces and wrinkled foreheads are adorable! My little girl, Freyja is part basenji and part Siberian husky. She's got the ears, the markings and wrinkles of a basenji but a longer straight tail and ice blue eyes of a husky.

@@Stormblast729 Have you looked into B.R.A.T.? (Basenji Rescue & Transport.) www.basenjirescue.org They are just a wonderful organization. We fostered (and then adopted) our 4th basenji from them… “Little Girl.” And it was through them that we learned that Dabi had not yet found himself a home when he was a puppy (although it IS a show breeder - Sundiata Basenjis - who we purchased Dabi from).

I had a basenji Chihuahua quite by accident. I never had a little dog before my whole life I've had huge dogs! But I went to the pound and there was only pitbulls and I have nothing against pitbulls but I never owned one before and didn't feel like it was the right time to start that. I went to the end of the road cages and there was this cute dog just wagging her tail in circles because they don't reg side to side and I told her I didn't take little dogs she told me she wasn't little :-) she was much bigger than the average Chihuahua but smaller than a middle-sized dog. I now don't have her because I had to put her to sleep a few years ago because of health problems she was having I didn't want her to suffer. I must have had 30 dogs during my lifetime and she's the one I think of the most. Great dog

@@jimmiedeeflynn946 aww. that’s the sweetest story. ❤️ (sorry it took me so long to see your comment. i have memory/mixup issues.) one of my sons had a chihuahua-mix that he named quesadilla enchilada (casey 😅). little casey loved mark more than probably any other dog will love him in his life. 😭❤️❤️❤️ casey was the ring bearer in mark & his wife’s wedding. he wore a little top hat. we knew that he would not run off in the park in spite of the large group of people / distractions. as soon as we pointed him towards mark, who was waiting with his bride and the pastor under a gazebo, casey made a beeline straight towards him. 🥹 it’s nice that you’re a dog person. hoping you enjoy many more years with your treasures. 🥰

@@GrumpyGirlProductions haha it’s the weirdest thing to me, I’m new to the dog world and exploring the different breeds, I find it fascinating that such attribute and personality traits exists in a dog 😆
@GrumpyGirlProductions
@GrumpyGirlProductions 2 жыл бұрын
@@hugoschkiglitz i was new to the dog world, too, in 2003 when we got neo, our first basenji. he was a black & white boy. 😍 my husband had had outdoor dogs in his family as a child. but my parents’ house was a no-pet zone. my mom was very particular. ❤️ and that’s rubbed off on me to a degree. 😬😅🥰 but around the early 2000s a few things happened in and to our family that made me more conscious of how short life is / can be. as a result i stopped “sweating the small stuff” to the extent i had previously. …not enough, though, to prevent me from extensively searching for the right/appropriate dog for our family. i still have the dog breed book that i studied while on the search for a first dog for our family of: my hubby & me and our 3 teenaged children. i must have mentioned my quest to my coworkers (at a graphic design company in lancaster, PA that had armstrong as our biggest client). a man named john leddy told me about basenjis. he was in love with the breed. i had skipped over the breed in my book… the author had chosen the only unflattering picture of a basenji in the world, i’m convinced. lol. 😅 but when john showed me info about basenjis online i was instantly captivated by the beautiful breed. i kind of knew what we were in for if we got one. the best source, of learning everything there is to know about basenjis, for me has been b.r.a.t. - basenji rescue & transport. i could go on and on with my stories. but basically, my husband & i already liked cats, and the particulars and peculiarities of basenjis really appealed to us, so when our oldest son saw an ad for what would be our first basenji in the paper, he set in motion our awesome life as basenji caretakers (servants? devotees? “…owners” isn’t really the right word 😅). as with having children in the house, a person can’t expect the home to remain as pristine as it can be made to be if it’s a petless home. but i gladly trade a perfectly neat home for one risking some basenji shenanigans. they are so worth it to us basenji lovers. of course, they’re not for everyone. that’s why a lot end up in rescue. b.r.a.t. is just awesome at placing discarded basenjis into their forever homes. (in 2004 we bought 2 girl basenjis, afterwards we started fostering b.r.a.t. rescues, and in 2007 - i think - we adopted our 4th basenji… a 7-year-old puppy mill breeder from b.r.a.t.) sadly, as far as i know, john’s wife never did give up her plans on having a perfectly neat home so she didn’t allow basenjis to become a part of it. 💔 poor john. i tell you all of this because, even if you’re completely new to dogs like i was, you may find that you’re a basenji person. but make sure you prepare yourself by researching what you’re in for first. ❤️❤️❤️

So how did they relieve themselves eventually?
@GrumpyGirlProductions
@GrumpyGirlProductions 2 жыл бұрын
well, it’s been awhile… but knowing dabi, when he couldn’t wait any longer: he daintily and begrudgingly made his way to a tree or bush, quickly relieved himself, and sprinted back into the house as fast as he could. prisca may have tip-toed a few feet into the wet yard and peed before also rushing inside. or she may have had one of her accidents in the house… 😳 prisca is our 5th basenji to raise from puppyhood. and she is the only one of the 5 to be accident-prone in the house. 🙄 we thought that we knew what we were doing before she came along… kind of like how we thought this parenting stuff was easy when our first 2 (human) children each slept through the nights beginning at 3-1/2 weeks of age. then we had our third child and it took him 7-1/2 long months to sleep through [most of] the night for the first time. just when a person thinks that they know what they’re doing… 😬🙄🤣🙃 (our 4th basenji was a rescue from a puppy mill. she had been made to breed litters for the first 7 years of her life. we fostered her for b.r.a.t. - basenji rescue and transport - and then adopted her. she had accidents in the house. we put it down to her tough early life, living in a cage. but, like i say, we tried to housebreak prisca the same as our earlier 4 basenji puppies, yet she still has accidents, here and there. we forgive her, though. 🤷🏻‍♀️😭❤️❤️❤️)
