I always love watching these BTS breakdowns. There's always something to learn. What was the reasoning for having both camera angles so similar rather than shooting wider and just cropping in sections for the edit? Other than a backup camera and memory cards
@timothy_films
@timothy_films 11 ай бұрын
A few reasons… I always do my best to avoid cropping in post. It’s always best to film things in camera the way you want. I think the angles actually very different. The tighter angle compresses the background so much more and you wouldn’t achieve this by cropping. I wanted the b cam to be more than a backup angle. It feels different within the story. A cam is more intimate and b cam is more laid back and informational in the story. Great question! Hope that helps 👍

I thought it was interesting that you talk about how clutch tethering your audio recorder’s aux output directly to your camera was. I was taught to always shoot like this if possible. This is the way to go when using dual system audio in general if possible, as you get a backup and in my experience you get perfect syncing as well, no drift Baby. Zero realistic downsides IMO , you can even use a wireless go or something to tether if you need wireless. I bring direct boxes to convert 3.5m to xlr and back if needed

Nice ,I dont often do my own audio , but for sit-down interviews I have been doing it more lately . I would always worry about concealed lavs and clothes noise , even with a sound recordist !, but I see that with a well placed and good quality shotgun on a boom , you don't need the lav . Just get it right with the boom , to 2 tracks ,different levels . Fx9 has very decent pre amps , better than many of the cheaper ext audio recorders , and just record in Camera , with the bonus of zero TC drift :)

Sound blanket is a nice touch, do you often shotgun mic and lav for backup? 99% of the time I find myself using lav audio and the boom is the backup personally.
@timothy_films
@timothy_films 11 ай бұрын
I’m always using the boom as my main source for interviews. It’s a higher quality mic and the lavs are hidden by clothes which obstructs sound a little. That’s why the lav is my backup. There’s no right or wrong, just my preference.

Great interview breakdown! Definitely subscribing. As a beginner it is great to see you are able to use that 300d for that key light. I got a Nanlite Forza 300 on the way, but been worried it might not be enough with everyone using 600d or even 1200 for booklight. By the way, did you use a warmer color temperature for that 600x with spotlight lighting up the center left background?
