Recently decided to go back and focus on the basic techniques I skipped particularly string bends/vibrato. I was really struggling with getting confortable with the movement itself and this video made a huge difference. It actually instantly improved my bends as you suggested it may, now I just need to practice getting the intonation right. Not sure how I came across your channel but I'm glad I did! Thank you

Great content! I like your explanation on this topic. Do you use your wrist while you bend? What I mean is the wrist movement the predominant force when you go from compressed fingers to straight for bending higher strings? Or do you focus more on your finger movements? Thanks!

It's more of forearm rotation than wrist flexion (wrist bending). But yes the finger extension/compression works together with forearm rotation. If you only use fingers you're limiting everything to very small muscles/tendons which have less force and duration. That's why using the larger forearm muscles/tendons should make it a lot easier to bend the strings. But bending the wrist should be totally avoided because that actually elongates the tendons of the fingers and limits their dexterity and mobility.

I always have a problem with bending the high strings upward. Whichever finger I’m using to perform the bend ends up underneath the string above it, which wrecks the whole bend as I release it.
