for a youngblood, he's got a well stocked skillset. I dragged fuel joints around the GTA for 25 years and his skills are far and above what most drivers pulling a dryvan will ever have. That said...after working tanks and skateboards, a dry van looks massive in the mirror. Kudos to ya kid, and even more so, the attitude....someone best be proud of you.

I've never driven in Canada before, but if it's anything like Wyoming or Montana during the winter, (I'm sure it gets a lot worse lol) y'all have my eternal respect. 🫡 It can be pretty fun to drive in the snow, but the other day I tried parking at a rest area to do my 30, and as soon as I set my brakes the truck started sliding down the hill. I hadn't realized there was ice, but it was nice and slick. I was able to get traction in the snow on the side of the shoulder near the sidewalk, crept my way down to the ramp leading to the interstate, and never looked back. I don't really care to do that ever again. 😅😅

I ran eastern Canada for years hauling John Deere, and no... Wyoming has Ontario beat for terrible weather. 60 and 70mph non stop winds, blowing snow, whiteouts, Wyoming is way worse.
@connorbaz5980
@connorbaz5980 Жыл бұрын
@@TheRoadhammer379 interesting. Do you think that they're just more prepared for the winter up there, or does terrain have that big a big role to play? I know when I was a new driver the winds in Wyoming freaked me the heck out lol. Kansas, Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle can definitely push it too lol.
@joshuakosiba2640

@@connorbaz5980 I run doubles across i80 daily. Its a lack of funding for our roads/maintenance crews, lack of population and extreme weather. We're over 20 plow drivers short(horrible pay and laid off in summer usually) paired with high wind, high snow and lots of steep terrain it leads to a lot of issues with blowing and drifting snow which then creates big stretches of ice on the road. I was running a set of empty doubles and hit a stretch of ice at 15mph and both of my boxes were at a 45+ degree angle due to the wind just pushing them on ice. Barely made it that day.
@connorbaz5980
@connorbaz5980 Жыл бұрын
@@joshuakosiba2640 we've probably passed each other without knowing it multiple times lol. i-80 was one of my most active routes. Ran Central out to the West Coast, back on through to the East Coast and back to home base. Thanks for the explanation too, that definitely all makes sense. If I lived up in the more northern climates, I'd definitely consider driving a snowplow. Sounds like you got this thing down but still, be safe out there! The most unfortunate thing for me is that I didn't have to worry about the roads as much as I did the parking lot at the Flying J in Rawlins. Slipped on the ice there a few months ago and caused a bulged disc that later turned into a full blown herniation on the trip home. Rough roads and shot suspension that your company is too cheap to fix don't mix well with herniated discs. Been bedridden now for almost 2 full months. Not fun at all. 😅 Anyway, sorry for rambling. Just get kinda bored around here staring at 4 walls and a ceiling all day.

I have wondered for a long time why dont american trucks have a liftable 3rd axle. I drive a truck which is 6x4 but you can still lift the back axle, makes it so much more manoeuvreable in tight spaces and if it is slippery you get more weight on the drive axle.

Well I can tell you from experience that chains wouldn’t have helped you lol. Funnily enough, the one time I’ve pulled chains out and put them on was in the US. I got caught in a snowstorm in Duluth, MN empty, like you were in this video. I put all my chains on and it still wouldn’t get me up the hill. I eventually flagged down a pickup that was willing to tow me up the hill, and at the same time he showed up a police cruiser showed up and put his bull bar on the back of my trailer and they both got me up the hill. I was very happy they stopped to help me!

Southern Ontario you’re not allowed to chain up, the idea is they keep the roads clear enough in the winter that ya don’t need chains. The rare case that it does get bad (worse than this) they just basically say “don’t drive” 🤷‍♂️

When I watched the video of you getting your rig stuck on your folks farm in the mud when you bought your brand new trailers, it made me wonder, with the custom wheel well fenders you have on each individual rear tire that practically covers the entire tire on your truck, how are you able to get chains on your tires because there looks like there is no room in between the tires and the metal wheel well fenders you have on your rear drive tires? Do you ever use chains at all or do you not need them or drive in mountainous terrain on your routes?
