2½ hp Gade engine running a small jaw crusher through a right angle Almond lineshaft coupling.
Taken at the 2023 Great Oregon Steam-Up in Brooks Oregon.

That right angle coupling is amazing! I presume it was designed to avoid reversing the direction, as would happen with bevel gears?

I am confused, you can't get two directions with bevel gears ? Imagine looking at a gearbox from above with a short imput shaft with a gear and a short output shaft with a gear, that will reverse direction, i get that. But when you take a short input shaft with a gear and you take a long output shaft so the gear on that shaft is at the other side compared to the above situation it will give the same direction if i'm not mistaken? Machines working on this principle are very much still in use. I guess this one would work a bit better with a hopper installed and some rocks pushing down.
